Things to do in Castres

This restaurant is a bit out of the town centre, but still an easy 10 minute walk over the river from the main square. (If you're driving there's a big car park outside.) Central Castres, to us at any rate, did not appear to be over-blessed with good restaurants so we were fortunate that this one was recommended to us by the proprietor of the Hotel Renaissance and we ate there two evenings out of three. Brasserie Marso is a well run bistro with welcoming, efficient staff and traditional French brasserie decor on two floors. You may need to book at busier times of the year (05 63 35 79 30).

A warm, friendly and cozy place. A traditional cuisine which varies according to season faithful to the "Home-made" label . The terrace in the heart of the city allows a gastronomic halt. Relaxation and flavors are included. Late service.
We walked in on a Saturday without a reservation. We were offered a chance to sit on the ground floor rather than upstairs which was full. On reflection this was probably a mistake by us because we were virtually alone for the whole meal apart from one other couple having a drink waiting for a table upstairs.Nevertheless the service was good (they even helped to move our table to a warmer position away from the door) and the prices moderate. The food was fine.

Deliciously realised, exceptionally presented, the beef Rossini and with morilles mushrooms were at Michelin star level. The fois gras as a starter was also tasty and perfectly matched with a figue preserve. It would have deserved 5 stars but the paper napkins and table sets and the plastic plants are just good for a pizza place; not this level of restaurant.

We ate here on the first night of our visit to Castres. The food was very very good - particularly the ravioli. The wine was exceptionally good value and service was first class. The decor is, perhaps, a little tired and would benefit from a little more lighting. Well worth a visit.

We went with another couple who we were staying with outside Castres to say thanks and it was recommended by locals. The service was good pricing good and atmospheric.I had the 26 euro set menu and it was large it consisted of 4 courses and I thought they might be small servings but they were not. The cheese platter was to die. The wine was priced well.

From the outside this looks like a very small place, but the main dining room is upstairs. It's a warm, comfortable, stylish place. The food is very very good and excellent value. Do try it if you are in Castres.

Amazing...
Friendly restaurant serving good food well cooked. We were visiting Castres for a rugby weekend and they had put a Castres flag on our table, which was a nice touch. The weekend menu offered two choices for each course. We both had Langoustines which were large and excellent all washed down with a very acceptable white wineRestaurant had a nice Hollywood theme with star wars salt & pepper, chairs Hollywood style with famous actors names on the back and place mats montage of famous films â try and work out how many you know!Having eaten in some of the fancier restaurants this is the one we will come back to when next in Castres. You will need to book in advance as has 20 odd covers and full when we were thereThanks so much for your comment et your visit. Sorry for the victory of Castres olympique...at the next match !

Having dined here previously a number of years ago, we found that the restaurant had changed hands. Their new chef is great and produced a 3 course lunch of high quality. However, we arrived at 1pm (having booked in advance) and this clearly did not sit well with the waiting staff, who are used to French customers arriving at 12 noon. We were given a table right on the corner by the entrance to the kitchen, even though there were other tables for 3 available, and were rather rushed through our lunch. This extended to the waitress setting up the tables for dinner service quite noisily whilst we were still eating. So go there for the food, but arrive at 12 if it's lunchtime and only expect to eat the set lunch as that's what's on offer, no a la carte choices (just 2 other pricier set menus).
