We were advised by a friend to have supper here, so we booked a table. It is good that we did that, because it turned out that the small place was full in the evening. No wonder, the service and food are excellent! Also the atmosphere is special: It feels like being at someone's home. The menu is small, but the things we had were all superb. There is no mention of salad or wine by the glas on the menu, so just ask for it.

Very nice restaurant with typical dishes from the area, accessible by car or a (longer) walk from Ascona. Especially recommendable for an early dinner on a hot day, just great to sit under big trees and still see the sun shining on the opposite hillside...Price/value ratio is also very good.

Enjoyed my lunch and discussions with the owner and gentleman in the next table. Family style, tasty and easygoing, almost like the outside dining room for locals. You can eat quietly and talk small or big topics, but better try out your German or Italian, even if a bit rusty!

Weâve been to Grotto La Risata to taste the typical dishes of the region. Couldnât be more satisfied!! The entire experience was stunning from the moment we stepped in. Perfect location, wonderful outside terrace, good ambience and cheerful owner. Average prices, surely worth it. Definitely recommended!!

We took the bus from Locarno out there, after reading the reviews and having eaten already at some other grottos.Very friendly staff, did not made reservations and still got to sit where we wanted. Food was amazing so was the service. Did not had desert but a great merlot from the region and a bottle of water. We are definitely coming back

This was an all-around pleasing experience. The staff speak all kinds of languages very well, are very helpful and forthcoming. The menu is unreal! There is all kinds of fine food, and the off-menu dishes of the day are even better! I could not recommend this place more!

My wife and I had a terrific lunch in all regards. The service was prompt, attentive and friendly without being intrusive. The setting on the terrace with the view across Lago Maggiore and the general ambience were very nice as well. However, the excellent food is the real star. We each chose to have the three-course menu, which had been recently set for autumn. We found each of our dishes to be excellent: rabbit liver pate, hazelnut-encrusted venison, and peach tarte with caramel ice cream. Weâre currently planning when will be our next visit.Dear travelin-tommy, warm thanks for your great review. We are happy you had a terrific experience at our restaurant. Besides our daily changing 4-course menu, we have a quiet large menu card which we adapt about every 3 months, according to the season. The autumn menu card, which proposes also game, has just been set in the beginning of September and you were the first to taste it We are looking forward to seeing you soon again at the Collinetta for one more tasty lunch or dinner. Unable to walk to the town we had all our meals for 4 days at the Ascona Hotel restaurant. Every meal was just perfect. Nothing "strange" as on some of our trips. Service perfectly fine.

I live nearby and Al Fresco is my go-to eatery when I don't feel like cooking. Why? Good food, friendly service and an amazing view of Laggo Maggiore. The pizzas and risottos are delish (especially the red wine risotto with radicchio and mullet) but the sizzling steak on a hot stone is my dish of choice - perfectly grilled and served with home fries and seasonal veggies. This is one of the best spots to eat in the area and well worth the drive or short walk uphill from town.
