Reviews on Ecuadorean food in Cuenca, Azuay Province, Ecuador. Writers and poets have long flourished in arts-oriented Cuenca, the country's third-largest city and the capital of the Azuay province. Cafes and galleries are tucked among the narrow cobblestone streets. The main plaza hosts both the old cathedral, started in 1557, the year the city was founded, and the blue-domed Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, dating to 1885. Locally made Panama hats get top billing at the markets, with centrally located Casa de la Mujer a shopping standout.

We recently visited this restaurant for lunch after our first choice was closed. It is a very popular restaurant in a convenient location right by Parque Calderon. The food and service however were both mediocre at best. The food is Ecuadorian standard, but where this can normally be had for $2-3 as part of a âmenu del diaâ, here it cost much more. Many better choices to be had in Cuenca.

Stopped here for lunch while visiting the old city and ate an enjoyable outdoor lunch: soup, salad, an entree and a cervesa - all for about $6. The seating inside looked pleasant for colder days. If you get hungry while strolling through Cuenca, this was a quite, affordable, friendly place to recharge.

The steak was superb, cooked just right (med rare). Generous portion. Olives on the salad was interesting! Plancha de pollo was also very good (the one without sauce). This place is highly known for it's Cui, don't think I'll get there. Reservations are a must. We were lucky to get a table, we arrived at 6:30pm just as they opened.

Great food, welcoming staff and a beautiful garden with humming birds. We were lucky enough to go twice to Corvel during our stay in Cuenca. Once with friends for a long Sunday lunch and prior to that on a gastronomic tour with Chef Patricio including a visit to their community herb farm and a cooking class at Corvel including a fabulous prawn quinotto (risotto with quinoa instead) and chicken cooked in cream and ground roasted pumpkin seeds) - delicious! The 45min trip to and from Paute is through scenic countryside and the little town itself is nice to walk around and is near the river. We hired a van and driver to take the 10 of us. Hang gliding for $50 offered nearby.

Three of us went here today to celebrate a friends birthday. From the moment we entered the staff was so friendly. Our food was amazing. It came with chicken on the side. pedimos disculpas por no responder antes, pero agradecemos su visita y nos motiva el saber que les gusto nuestro servicio, les esperamos en una próxima ocasión.

Fantastic food, service abd ambiance. The best restaurant we visited during our stay. Local delicacies prepared freshly. The chef came to our table and recommended a whole series if great dishes. What a delight. Not expensive and very attractive seating and decor. Incredibly friendly staff. I cannot recommend it enough. Go for a dessert and see the plate designed in blackcurrant sauce and passion fruit. We thought it was hand painted but it started 3 mins before as a plain white plate (photo attached I hope). Honestly, go there and you'll love it. Definitely need a reservation.

Excellent grilled salmon, fried pork ribs, seabass following well-made cocktails and octopus as our appetizer. Our chocolate desserts were exceptional. We enjoyed the food so much that we asked the waiter to give our compliments to the chef. Instead the waiter actually brought the chef to our table to receive our heartfelt compliments. We sat at a window table with a river view.

This is a tiny restaurant, with fabulous seafood and fish. The first time we went, I had the langoustines with a sesame honey sauce. The langoustines were enormous, the presentation was beautiful and the food was amazing. My friend had salmon, and it was great too. Next time we went, we asked if we could have the sesame honey sauce on the salmon and were told "Of course!" The chef brought out the langoustines and corvina he was recommending that day, to show us. His wife greets guests, seats and serves them with a huge smile. On a Saturday night when people were lined up to get in, I suggested they should expand. Nope. They want to keep the restaurant small so they can personally cook and serve. "Like a family kitchen," I was told. This couple values the quality of their food and service over profits. They clearly love what they do, and they do it magnificently. Because there is not room for more than about 16 diners at any time, it's better to reserve. You can make a reservation through Facebook. They respond quickly to messages.
