The restaurant was about half full for breakfast on a Saturday. We were seated quick, but took a while for coffee and then waited another 10 mins for server to come back and take our orders. Server only stopped by to fill coffee once. The breakfast I ordered eggs, bacon and toast were all overcooked and barely warm when they arrived to table. After we finished our meal it was about another 10 mins before we could see our server and wave here down for the bill. Much better breakfast options available.
"Different strokes for different folks" applies here. The Viking Grill is a small neighborhood café. Nothing wrong with that; I enjoy them - if the food is good. But, not being a regular, I can't overlook less-than-mediocre food. My girlfriend's skillet scramble was overdone and dry. My French toast was also overdone and dry and I did not appreciate having it cut up for me in small pieces (why do that?). Our side of biscuits and sausage gravy, however, was a little peppery and good. I'm sure Viking Grill makes for a friendly place for the locals to discuss the latest HS sports event but when I pass through Niles again I'll look for another place to have breakfast.
