Messini (Greek: Μεσσήνη) is a municipal unit (dimotiki enotita) and seat (edra) of the municipality (dimos) of Messini within the regional unit (perifereiaki enotita) of Messenia in the region (perifereia) of Peloponnese, one of 13 regions into which Greece has been divided. Before 2011 the same hierarchy prevailed, according to Law 2539 of 1997, the Kapodistrias Plan, except that Messenia was a nomos and the Municipal unit was a locality (topiko diamerisma). The dimos existed under both laws, but not with the same constituents.

I visited Pleatea for breakfast with my family. I think it was one of the lovelier meals I had in Kalamata for its freshness, presentation, and service . The waiters are very professional which is a reflection of the restaurant. I had scrambled eggs and salmon which for onlyâ¬5.50 is extremely well priced. The other dishes my family had were the open sandwich and eggs Benedict, also all well presented and tasted delicious. Great place!

We set off for Kalamata to find a different restaurant recommended on TripAdvisor only to discover it was closed for 2 weeks! Somewhat disappointed we set off walking to find somewhere else to eat and spotted some tables out in a small street.Mosaiko, or Mosaic (both tiles and a dessert made of chocolate and biscuit we were told) is one of three small bar/restaurants down one of the narrow streets of Kalamata not far from the market. We liked the look of the menu and picked a Greek salad and a selection of appetisers. Be warned - their idea of an appetiser is very different to ours. We thought 4 appetisers and some fries would be ample but it turned out to be enough for another three people and the two of us hardly did it justice.Curried chicken with vegetables (not cooked to oblivion but with a little bite), kebabs, meatballs and pork with chilli were accompanied by a local beer and a small carat of local white wine. The food was simple, fresh, beautifully presented. The staff were charming and friendly and the atmosphere was lovely but then we like sitting in the street and watching life go on about us.All in the meal cost about â¬43 which we rounded to â¬50 so not the cheapest meal but then it genuinely would have fed 4 had we known how big the portions were.Highly recommended.
