Dating from at least the 10th century, today Kassel is most famous internationally as the home of Documenta, an every-five-years exhibition of modern and contemporary art. In the late 17th century Kassel received a large influx of Huguenot refugees from France. During the 1800s, it became the capital of the Brothers Grimm's Fairy Tale Route. In 1943, the city was virtually razed by British bombers, leaving few old sights, but the 18th-century Wilhelmshöhe Castle overlooking the city remains.

For the art crowd: I arrived in Kassel from Münster, and basically stumbled upon this international small plates restaurant close to my hotel in a lovely residential neighborhood. The food is fantastic, really special, made with skill and love. Sepia (cuttlefish) was a top hit, and the shrimp, and the steak, and the several vegetable dishes. And the bread with aioli. Two nights later I returned with am Australian museum curator friend and an art consultant. Like me, they swooned and were thrilled. This is a tremendous restaurant for Documenta, which is just a few tram stops away, a perfect place to meet friends and colleagues during the exhibition. Highly, highly recommend!

My husband and I were in Kassel for Documenta from Canada - our Airbnb host recommended this restaurant, and it was so good that we went twice during our very short stay in the city. The owner and staff are so kind, the food and beer is delicious. We made a point of trying schnitzel everywhere we went, and this was by far our favourite place in Germany.Hallo Selena,wir möchten uns für die wirklich nette Bewertung bei Ihnen bedanken. We had a nice evening in this nice and easy restaurant. Choosing our own meat cut - all from the region - and weight and having it prepared as required. I had a dry aged steak, great quality. Not huge but interesting wine selection. Very kind service.

I ate at Pamukkale last night based on the reviews that I read here. It is easy to find, from the Friedrichs tram stop walk half a block up to Funffenster Strasse and go right. From the left side of the street go left on Konigstor Strasse and there it is! I sat outside and enjoyed a delicious meal with friendly efficient service. The price is right and the quality is too! I ate the lamb gulasch and it was plentiful and delicious. A nice meal before a nice walk up and down the nearby pedestrian zone.
