Nora's is open from 6 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and therefore serves breakfast and lunch only. The food is basic but excellent in quality and preparation. I especially recommend the eggs with home-baked ham; the ham is fantastic. The portions are generous and inexpensive. The wait staff are friendly and exceptionally attentive; you'll get your coffee refilled about every two minutes without having to ask for it.

Again I would rate this between average and very good, we need another category. We always have good service here, they are quick and eager to please. When we came here for lunch, we found it plain and ordinary. The burgers were uninspired, the vegetables seemed canned and the specials were not special. I think it is good for breakfast though, that is its specialty. We can get a decent combo breakfast here at a good price. They have decent omelettes, pancakes, biscuits and gravy. I really don't think the other meals here are worth it.

Albany Mississippi Cafe

A quaint little restaurant with good home-style cooking and ridiculously reasonable prices! Ate there twice and loved it!!! Excellent food and service!!!!

The Albany Mississippi Cafe has a very high rating on TripAdvisor. Why? I have no idea. The exterior is attractive for a small town restaurant.Walking toward the back of the cafe, one gets a smell of "earthy" carpet. It may not be moldy; perhaps it has been walked on by too many pairs of boots since it has been cleaned or changed. Regardless of the reason, it is not an auspicious beginning and certainly not appetizing. Perhaps the restaurant has been in existence for a long time and local management is unaware of how smells and appearance impact the quality of a meal or its impact on customers. We ordered a shrimp salad and a pancake along with iced tea.The raspberry tea was good. The pancake was cooked well and the pecans added upon request were also not bad. It was not as sweet as in many restaurants but it was not burned and still tasted good. The accompanying bacon was also well cooked and not too salty. The lettuce in the salad was wilted. It wasn't brown as sometimes happens but not fresh either. The shrimp on the salad appeared to be fried shrimp that one finds in a grocery store freezer and heated in a microwave. For a person who was exceptionally hungry, it would be edible. I was not that hungry and ignored the shrimp after trying several pieces. They were covered with a batter and certainly not fresh. I have tasted similar dishes—usually after purchasing them from a local grocery store freezer section and heating them up in a microwave. The waitress was competent but did not seem to enjoy her job and the service was barely adequate. She was not very communicative but did come by upon occasion to see if we needed anything. The pie looked excellent. We did not try it so I cannot comment other than by its appearance. It was being served to several other diners who appeared to be enjoying it. That may be the best dish in the house. In short, not a good experience and I would not recommend it—although it may be a good stop for someone who just wants to eat dessert. I would have rated the restaurant with a "1" but based on the salad but the pancake was not bad. Perhaps it is a better restaurant for breakfast as long as one does not sit toward the back portion of the establishment.
