Had a recent visit for lunch during the week. Everything was so tasty. Loved the shaved Brussel Sprout Caesar! It was incredible and a generous portion! This place has a diner-like funky vibe. The staff was knowledgeable and prompt. Great local experience in Chicago! Also tried to Patty Melt-wow, just wow. My daughter went back the next day to try other items on the menu. So worth your time to visit and eat!

April 2, 1983. In a city known for meat packing & hog butchering, a brave pair of optimistic vegetarians opened a ground breaking meat free eatery called The Chicago Diner. Since then, co-owners Mickey Hornick & Jo Kaucher, have built a reputation for wow
I'm not a vegetarian, but the food here was excellent. Service was just a bit slow, but the place was jammed on a Friday night. It is currently the top restaurant in Chicago on Trip Advisor, but that is based on a relatively small number of reviews. I doubt very much that it is the absolute best in this huge city. But there ois no doubt in my mind that this small diner would be one of the top 5 or 10%.

The portions were large. I went for the BBQ ribs and Bean Burger with Waffle Fries. Modelo beer too. The food tasted lovely. Really good value too. The service was excellent too. Probably one of the best vegan restaurants in the city.

We stopped in here after our visit to Adler planetarium on 10/08/2019 for lunch! Felipe was our waiter and he was happy, friendly and attentive! We weren't starving, so didn't want to order a heavy meal. I decided on the Belgium waffle and hubby had a bagel. Both were really great!! The environment and decor will take you back in time, and it's just a really nice place to stop and take a break from doing all the touristy stuff. I would definitely recommend this place to friends, and will definitely return the next time we visit Chicago. Cheers!Super happy you found our little family diner/deli tucked away in Chicago South Loop. Thank you !

Lou Mitchell's is not only a classic Chicago icon, but our food is recognized both nationally and internationally with endless accolades. Among the list are USA Today, American Way, newspapers, magazines, food critics, television. "It's a must see place."
Lou Mitchell's came highly recommended so of course we had to eat breakfast at Lou Mitchell's while in Chicago. Good corner location. Greeter offered us a complimentary donut hole and box of milk duds. Table was still wet when were seated at the booth so I wiped it down with a napkin. Demi was our server. We ordered two of the 1 egg meals (they come with the egg, hash brown potatoes, meat and toast) and also added a side of 1 pancake. Came to about $23. Food arrived within 10 mins of ordering. The potatoes were round cut like chips and unseasoned so you add salt and pepper to your desire. So they not bad. The fried egg was double yoke, very good. The delicious sausage tasted fresh, links were large. The bacon had a good flavor. The 1 scrambled eggs seemed more like 3 eggs it was so much and fluffy. The freshly baked dark wheat bread, which is hard to find in restaurants, was delicious. The buttermilk pancake was thin but fluffy, light and melted in my mouth it was so good. So much food I had to get a to go box. You pay up, at the counter. Service was decent, food was delicious, portions were large, prices a little more than I'd like to pay but not too had, because you get plenty. Maybe I went at a good time of day, around 1pm, there was no line at all, it wasn't crowded inside, and we were seated quickly. No complaints. Enjoyed the food and the experience. Will definitely go again.

Nookies Wells is a casual, all American Diner Restaurant that is owned by the same family that owned its sibling restaurants since 1973: Nookies Too, Nookies Tree, and Nookies Edgewater. Our menu features all day a complete array of expertly prepared brea
My wife and I miss Nookies. Since we discovered this quaint and friendly neighborhood restaurant several years ago, we make frequent visits for breakfast or lunch. Located at 1746 North Wells Street in Chicago's historic Old Town neighborhood, it is like a home away from home, serving the kind of comfort food that we enjoy at home. The menu is comprehensive, something for everybody. But we have our favorites. Over the years, I have submitted review after review touting Nookies' fresh squeezed orange juice, the best and sweetest I have ever tasted, even in Florida. That may seem like a small thing but it always gets my breakfast or lunch off to a good start. "Fresh and friendly since 1973" is their motto and that's the way it is. For lunch, my favorite is a healthy bowl of rice and barley soup with a large tossed salad of greens, tomatoes, hard-boiled eggs, cucumbers, onions and 1,000 Island dressing. My wife opts for either a Belgian waffle with fresh strawberries or a pulled pork sandwich that never disappoints. Most reviews praise Nookies' breakfast--and I certainly enjoy their Eggs Benedict--but lunch deserves its props, too.
