I will start with our bill. 143e for two adults and a child. If you are still here read on. Food is really good . Monkfish dish was fabulous without being mega tasty. Kids burger was out of this world. No idea why but was great. Don’t miss the desserts. You don’t get a menu. Just kind of pick and mix for a set price. So the food is good and the service was adequate without being the same standard as the food. If I have any grumble it is that bottled water costs 7e. That is robbery. But I did enjoy my visit. Great views too. DJ on the balcony playing cool tunes. Toilets are an adventure.Do visit but don’t tell the bank manager.

2.Mille.3

On a stunning terrace facing the Caron peak, choose from our traditional menu at the 2.Mille.3. As a seasoned skier, you can choose from the grill of the day, quick snacks, a selection of platters and the dessert buffet...

This review is for the diner option served as a buffet(there is a regular menu for lunch fares). The restaurant is quite cosy and well on the mountain theme. The full meal is served as buffet which makes it great if you're tired and don't want to spend hours dining. The food quality is very good and the selection of hot dishes and desserts is quite extensive. The only downside is the appetizer selection which is quite not up to par with the rest of the offering(but still of good quality). Service is friendly and efficient and the room not as noisy as you may think.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Altapura for a week in January 2015 on half-board and dined at the restaurant twice. As half-boarders, we received 120 euros in total towards our bill and then paid whatever amount remained. If we’d not been half-boarders, I would probably have given one less star to the restaurant since I don’t think the prices correlated to the food or service particularly well.On our first visit, I had the tiger prawns and my husband had the king crab as a starter. My prawns turned out to be deep fried, which wasn’t mentioned on the menu, and was pretty unfortunate, since I hate deep fried prawns. My husband’s king crab was the teeniest, tiniest piece. Both portions were pretty unremarkable and I struggle to remember anything but disappointment. Had I paid the full price, I would have been pretty angry. For a main course, I had the "assiette rouge" with half a lobster and two types of prawns. My husband had half a lobster with French fries. He was disappointed with his dish; it was literally half a cold, and quite soggy, lobster. My assiette rouge was fine. We skipped desserts. On our second visit, we skipped the starters. As a main, my husband had a steak and I had the lobster spaghetti. The steak was, according to my husband, the best dish he had during our entire week in Val Thorens. My lobster pasta was okay; it was more of a half a lobster with pasta on the side than a proper spaghetti with lobster sauce and lobster. The dessert was fine, but not nearly as delectable as the dessert spread in the buffet. In conclusion, if, like us, you have a half-board meal plan at the hotel, I do recommend trying the restaurant out, but for guests from outside the hotel, I would go somewhere else. The dishes (both in terms of quality, taste and price) did not live up to the prices charged and although it bills itself as a fine-dining restaurant, there were quite a number of people who walked in wearing T-shirts, which didn’t exactly make for a romantic or fine-dining kind of type atmosphere.
