Three of us ate lunch here. We meet our daughter here. Sheâs vegetarian so she could easily find what she wanted. Hubby had oriental and I was watching my weight watchers points so I had the beautiful salad bar. I LOVE that they had herring on the salad bar. It was a very satisfying lunch. Probably goBack again.
Timmy Flynn's has been a favorite Iowa City restaurant since 1979 serving up the best sandwiches in town. This amiable Hawkeye hangout has delicious subs, spuds, soups and salads. Ask and we'll also gladly cater your next party or event!
This restaurant was called âHungry Hoboâ since 1984, and maybe longer. They served filling economical sub sandwiches, and were popular with a blue-collar worker lunchtime crowd, and families. The name changed, and then about a year ago, the long-time owner sold the business. They still offer the same menu of sub sandwiches as 30 years ago, but now thereâs more. They now also offer breakfast, cooked on their grill, and they also now offer more house-made desserts.Decorations are still decidedly mom-and-pop, and havenât changed in ten years. Youâll see a pinball machine and University of Iowa sports posters going back at least to 2001.

The minute you walked into Jimmy Johns, the guys were pleasant and nice. The sandwich was fresh and made just right. I will be back when I am in town working.

I've eaten at this restaurant numerous times while being in Iowa City. It's become a favorite lunch spot for sure. There are yummy gluten-free sandwich options for those that need to avoid gluten, and they are delicious. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere for an extended chat over lunch or just a coffee. When in Iowa City for medical appointments, my daughter consistently asks to go to Mama's deli.
