The Pink Door is an independently owned (never cloned, never genetically modified) restaurant that has been quietly dedicated to fresh & local Italian food since 1981. Its seafood & produce driven menu has been the central theme throughout its wildly popu
Down the stairs off the Alley, folks leaving said "eat here"! My sweetie had Risotto (roasted butternut squash and sage) and I had Dungeness crab meat on a Caesar (large and chunky lettuce) salad with with "Truffle dusted" croutons although I couldn't really taste any truffle. They had a good selection of wines and I had a Tramin, Sauvignon Blanc from Alto Adage, in northern Italy.

We visited this restaurant as part of a food tour in Seattle. The owner of this restaurant also owns the Steelhead Diner, not too far away. We especially liked the polenta appetizer and the puttanesca. This venue was a little far from Downtown, but easily walkable from our cruise ship port. The Italian items are highly recommended.

This was my first time to Canlis, despite being born and raised in Seattle. I had always avoided it because I resented its pretentiousness in a city that prides itself on being casual. I continued to resent this pretentiousness when I received the email telling me the dress code and that there is a $50/person cancellation fee. I did, however, find the staff to be friendly and open, while providing impeccable service. We had one vegetarian and they were able to provide her with a separate menu. The view is fabulous of Lake Union and gasworks. It is a bit dark in the restaurant and the decor feels a bit 1970s to me. The food was very good and the wine list was excellent. I am tried it, but for the price, I think I would not visit again unless invited for a special occasion. I prefer someplace like Altura, where there is less pomp and more substance.

The food was fabulous. My husband and I shared the Seafood Bacchanalia. It had lobster tail, sea scallops, grilled wild prawns, seasonal fish, and blue king crab. We had the mashed potatoes and asparagus as sides. It was plenty to share. The view overlooking the water was beautiful and one of the servers was kind enough to take a picture of our group. We dined outdoors but we could still hear the music being played by the pianist inside. It was pricey but if you are looking for a place for a special occasion, it is perfect.
