San Mateoâs most exciting restaurant is All Spice, an eclectic, contemporary eatery from Executive Chef Sachin Chopra. Chef Chopra expertly blends the freshness of Californian ingredients with Indian spices to create an entirely new style of cuisine, at o
We came to "All Spice" to celebrate a special event in our life. We only recently learned about their Michelin award. Amazing!Lunch was great because they provided their PreFix menu. The cost was very reasonable for only $35 which includes tax and gratuity. They offered two options for each course of their prefix. We both shared the salad and mushroom soup. For the main course, I had the cod, while my Sweetie had black rice vegetarian sandwich. And for dessert, their homemade ice cream hit home run. Very delicious!I like their decor. Reminded me of Moulin Rouge. A bit hippy, a bit bohemian, with a twist of East Asian and Modern Indian theme! Their service here was excellent. Very attentive. We're going to have to come back for more and explore their dinner menu. I was told that their lamb is fantastic.Cheers!

To craft our menu, we traveled up and down India's coast, from Kerala to Hyderabad and beyond. The foods from these regions boasted an arsenal of flavors like none other - curries that were simultaneously spicy yet cooling, fresh seafood prepared in homem
Some individual dishes are excellent, but they are very heavy and there is redundancy on the menu, with one appetizer showing up again as a side to the main dish. Service stunningly just okay. Not welcoming, timing off with multiple appetizers brought at once rather than paced, empty dishes lingering on the table, water glasses repeatedly not refilled. We were in no hurry at all and ordered in two parts, but the meal lasted an hour, and we thought well that was quick!. The timing was like in a neighborhood Chinese restaurant, not what you expect from a 1-Star restaurant. This is not a full evening out. Also, ambience completely unexciting. If you are plowing through the list of Michelin 1-stars in the Bay Area you will come to a jolt when you get to this one. I am not a harsh critic but these was really just not okay. Move to the next in your list.

Viognier is a restaurant located above a new format market that has a bakery, book section, produce and meats of the highest quality. It also features a cooking school, so the combination with the restaurant is a one stop shop. But lets focus on the restaurant: Our only issue was the accessible lift that one had to navigate through the street and or market to get upstairs in a wheelchair. Although inconvenient it was not a major loss of points taken away. The food is just wonderful, the staff (especially our host, Drew) were pleasant to a fault without being Obsequies. His recommendations were spot on. My seared fois gras was of the best I have ever had anywhere. The chicken was superb, cooked well but not dried out. The Coulette of Waygu was just superb as well. Everyone in our party had a great time and remarked about how great their dishes were.I was a bit disappointed that the name of the restaurant only had two French Condrieu on the menu. The Vernay was a bit dear but the other selection was very good, as well as our Italian Sangiovese.Certainly a place to revisit
