We booked as a birthday meal for my partner on Saturday evening. We were greeted by the owner Vicky who is lovely and showed us to seats at the bar area where we had complimentary canapes before being shown to our table. Our waitress was a lovely young lady (Annie I think) who catered for our every need without being intrusive. We were told it was Italian inspired evening but we chose to order A la carte. The open kitchen is a great feature allowing you to see meals being prepared. I opted for the scallops and sea bass which were cooked to perfection. My partner opted for the soup of the day and 3 little pigs including belly pork. Again, the meals were stunningly presented. We had sides of jersey royals and triple cooked chips which are the best I've EVER tasted. I didn't order any alcoholic drinks but a couple sat close by asked for something specific and they were very knowledgeable, allowing them to taste before making their selection. A few have mentioned that the pianist was too loud, but where we were sat along the back wall, it was just right. The ladies washrooms are very small but spotless and beautifully decorated with individual cotton hand towels presented in a basket and lit candles. Very nice touch. In brief, our first visit to The Dean far exceeded our expectations and we look forward to trying one of their themed set menus and wish them every success. St Helens has been waiting a long time for a restaurant like this.
