The restaurant "Latada do Doutor" it's placed in the heart of the Funchal city. A place dedicated to the love of the well eating and drinking, with a lovely backyard/terrace, surrounded with a plantation of aromatic and medicinal herbs where the costumers
We tried to find this restaurant last year, but geography has never been my strong point, and we failed miserably. We were actually just having a stroll and stumbled upon it on our return to Madeira this year. We booked fairly last minute through The Fork and thought that if it wasn't to our liking, we'd just have a main course, a drink and move on. Anyway, lovely staff greeted us and the covered courtyard away from the hustle and bustle of the City and the badgering of the waiting staff on Rua Santa Maria was a delight. We ended up sampling different wines (surrounded by birdsong and their home garden of herbs) and having a really lovely 3 course meal. Great care had been taken with the flavours and, although we had fish and pork for our main courses, they were both more inventive / creative than the standard fare. For example, my fish came on a bed of flavoured potatoes (fennel seed / Rosemary?) with roasted onions and toasted flaked almonds, plus a stuffed tomato - a very good sized portion, but I ate the lot. Please don't let the hidden location deter you, it's actually quite central once you know where it's hidden and becomes an all the more attractive proposition because of that. If you head up from the Marina road (Avenida do Mar) passing Theo's Bazar Cafe and the Golden Gate on your right, cross the road, and head straight up Avenida Zarco, there's the entrance to a medical practice and to the restaurant almost opposite you when you reach the next junction, and Bob's your Uncle - not off the beaten track at all, although it will feel like that when you get there. The Restaurant "Latada do Doutor" and the entire staff thank you for your excellent evaluation. It was a pleasure to serve you. We hope to see you soon. Best regards.

A little gem of a restaurant with a fine dining experience, but not too expensive. Service was excellent. We had a 3 course meal with the wine pairing option, which is a great way to explore different wines, matched with your food. We ate exclusively seafood for mains and starter and everything was perfect. Would not hesitate to recommend.

An exclusive environment, with an amazing view all around of the Funchal bay, marked by black and white tones. You will be surprised by the unique atmosphere and sublime cuisine! Vegetarian a la carte menu available | Gluten free options available on requ
The restaurant is located in a stunning location with fantastic viwe over Funchal. We went for the 7 course set menu with wine pairing. Some of the dishes was lacking salt or spices, and was a bit disapointing. Other was good, but not outstanding. It is quite expensive place, so we would have expected a bit higher standard on the food. But if you are looking for a restaurant with a spectacular view of Funchal and the harbour this is the place.Dear Guest,Thank you so much for your review about us here in the TripAdvisor. We are really so happy to know you have enjoyed the location aswell as the view.We also want to thank you for saying your opinion related to seasoning of the dishes, however, we try to make the seasoning agreable with most customers, in other words, not too spicy or too salty, in this way any extras can be added to accomodate each persons preference.Thank you once again! We hope to have an opportunity to welcome you back soon!Kind regards,Nini Design Centre Team

Located in the interior of Monumental Experience shopping center, MadMarket Restaurant grants its guests an authentic traditional experience. Madeirean exquisite food and delicacies are carefully prepared by the kitchen staff and served with love and care
Service was a little slow & it wasn't that busy. They also had no tofu, but the staff didn't tell us this untill we tried to order it. We should have been told when they gave us the menu. Wait for the food was quite a while, but when it came it was worth the wait. Amazing food.Thank you very much for your review! We are really glad you enjoyed our food and we are very happy to know it was worth the wait. We apologize about the delay to serve you. At our restaurant we work with local and fresh products and we have very rigorous quality standards. Cooking preparations for certain dishes are sometimes long because we prepare everything at the moment. About the miscommunication about the tofu option, we are going to improve our communication process regarding the items in our menu and we appreciate your feedback. We always try to prepare our food according to traditional recipes and with the freshest possible ingredients to provide a special culinary experience and a way to discover the true typical Portuguese cuisine. Thank you very much for sharing your opinion and we hope to see you again soon!

This friday we had a dinner in a new opened restaurant in Funchal. We were triggered by the concept when we discovered it last month on instagram. A single table restaurant with serves up to 8 people only and serving a set menu with mostly local ingredients and special secret products new or rarely discovered on the island. We had the pleasure dining with a wide variety of people. Local and from abroad mixed together. Will not write all about the courses, but what we can say its all worth it. This young chef and his team is ready to rumble the Funchal dining scene. We went home with a smile on our face and some new made friends from Madeira. The ambiance is really superb, food is something next level and the concept dining and sharing this with new people is of an different kind we never experienced. We'll be back for sure and wish team Wanderer all the best. AbracoDear Dave,Thank you for your very well expressed review. I have shared it with our team. They very much liked the way you describe the settings. It was a pleasure to welcome you and Anne at The Wanderer. We are already looking forward to welcoming you again soon.
