My wife and son were here last night on recomendations. Were'nt impressed. Wife had Highway curry, heard it was lovely, nothing special. Son had Tikka Masala, nothing special either. Very expensive for what you get. Would'nt be bothered going back. Dose'nt come even near to Shakira in Dun Laoghaire!!!!!!

Waterfront Bistro

The Waterfront Bistro accommodates lunch and evening dining. A great dining experience at ordinary prices. Wednesday to Sunday nights it transforms into a sophisticated dining area with excellent dishes and beautiful wines on offer

On our first evening in Dún Laoghaire we had dinner at the Waterfront Bistro. We enjoyed it so much that we came back the next evening. (We might have come again on our third and last day, but that would have clashed with a European qualifier match against the Dutch. Alas, we’d better dined here again and not watched this humiliating loss...)The Waterfront Bistro is outstanding in many ways. The food is excellent, the wine list put together with great skill, the Guinness perfectly drawn into a chilled glass, and the proprietor makes you feel at home from the moment you step through the door. They offer a very refined way of home cooking. The soups of the day (for example parsnip/ginger) are soul-warming and have just the right consistency, not too thick and not too thin. The fish & chips were the best I ever had – I’ve had lots over there in the UK -, and I had to ask for more of the delicious remoulade sauce. The salads come dressed with a fine vinaigrette (on day 2, the greens would have benefitted from another washing cycle). We had them with goat cheese and with an interesting combination of pigeon and crispy fried pancetta. The vegetable linguine and the slow cooked pork belly were another examples of how to turn a rather ordinary dish into an epiphany (I’m not exaggerating here). The mussels I had for starters were such a generous pile that it would have sufficed easily for a full meal; they were so delicious that I couldn’t help licking my fingers instead of using the iced lemon water. On the first evening the ladies had some room left for dessert, in other words the options were too tempting. They had the mousses (mango/passion fruit and white chocolate/raspberry), both with vanilla ice cream. The photos speak for themselves.I wonder what the Michelin fellows were thinking when they visited Dún Laghoire the last time. A plate is the least we would award, but actually this place deserves a bib gourmand.Your review has been shared with all the staff and we are all thrilled. Thanks so much!
