Reviews on Contemporary food in Derry, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. Derry (/ˈdɛri/), officially Londonderry (/ˈlʌndənˌdɛri/), is the second-largest city in Northern Ireland and the fourth-largest city on the island of Ireland. The name Derry is an anglicisation of the Old Irish name Daire (modern Irish: Doire) meaning "oak grove". In 1613, the city was granted a Royal Charter by King James I and gained the "London" prefix to reflect the funding of its construction by the London guilds. While the city is more usually known colloquially as Derry, Londonderry is also commonly used and remains the legal name.

Eating with a friend, I had the daily special of Jerk Chicken, served with chips and chilli sauce and tobacco onions. Excellent portion, super quality food and even better service. Highly recommended. A lovely restaurant and a most enjoyable experience.

Ate here Saturday night of the jazz festival and had a really good meal. Service as always was excellent. My husband had the chicken caesar salad to start which was plentiful and delicious. Mains of steak and hake were excellent as was the sides of baby boiled potatoes, crispy courgettes and chips. While the baked alaska was very good the meringue being exceptional it was quite light on the ice-cream in fact we struggled to find any. Overall great service and a great meal. Well done and thanks to everyone looking forward to our next visit Hello Fox149,What a great weekend the Jazz festival was for the city.So happy that you had lovely time with us at The Gown Restaurant. Ill pass your comments on to Chef and make him aware. Please do visit us again - We look forward to welcoming you backRegards

Our tour group had dinner here after a day of sightseeing. What a gorgeous place!! Right on the river--the large windows offering a great view!! Wine was included in our package. Good choices!! Started with the soup du jour- a spicy tomato. For my entree, the blackened salmon with mango & lime salsa. Delish!!! It came with a salad platethat could have been a meal in itself. Potato salad, pasta salad, couscous salad, cole slaw & greens. What a salad!! For dessert, the creme brulee with shortbread & vanilla ice cream. Outstanding meal, service & location!! Definitely recommend!!!

I love pubs. But the problem with most of the pubs in Ireland is that they serve lots of drinks, and a smattering of snacks, but not that many offer a full menu for a meal. So because we wanted to eat more than drink, we passed pub after pub that only served drinks. Finally came to the Exchange Restaurant. Very nice and lively atmosphere with a friendly hustle and bustle about it. Delicious food. We had Blackened Salmon and Grilled Sea Bass. Excellent!

Quite surprised to see the variety of Asian cuisine, especially bao burgers, but the kimchi did not really taste like real kimchi if there was any at all. Overall good food, a good break from the ubiquitous hamburgers and french fries in Ireland.

We return to Browns after a gap of a few years - I missed it! The ambience is as refined as ever and the food is excellent. Very good presentation and all the courses were inventive and very good. Delicious desserts. We had the lunch menu (even on a Sunday) which is excellent value. Excellent home made bread. Large choice of wines - I particularly appreciated that each have a description including the grape and the flavours. Good service completed the great experience. Definitely worth a visit. Browns on Bond Hill is the more formal restaurant, whereas Browns in Town has a more popular menu. I go for Bonds Hill every time!
