Where to eat Contemporary food in Boston: The Best Restaurants and Bars

October 12, 2019 Alice Mieles

Discover Restaurants offering the best Contemporary food in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. Walk the Freedom Trail the first time you visit Boston, and you'll quickly get a sense of this coastal city's revolutionary spirit and history. But make sure you also explore some of Boston's fine museums (try the Gardner, featuring art masterpieces displayed in their collector's mansion) and old neighborhoods (like the North End, Boston's Little Italy). You can't claim to have experienced real Boston culture, though, unless you've watched a Red Sox baseball game from the bleachers.

I've eaten at excellent Italian restaurants in Sorrento, Sienna, Rome, Ravello, New York City, Toronto, Mexico City, Vancouver and Merida. Mamma Maria is now on my list of top Italian restaurants (including Michelin star places). The food was excellent and well presented. The service (in our case with Italian accent) was professional and friendly. Definitely recommend it and will be back.

This is a beautiful restaurant with exceptional service and a relaxed inviting atmosphere. The wine list is extraordinary and the sommelier was really helpful and knowledgeable leading us to a superb choice of an affordable Langedoc varietal. The apps were well prepared and very delicious, particularly the beef carpaccio/tartare. I was not as enthusiastic about the mains - while well prepared and excellent tasting, they were not especially creative or "special." I was more impressed with the food on previous visits. I will look forward to returning because of the A+ overall experience.

Slick place, cool bar, great decor and outside space in back. I ordered the mussels and the sauce which was delicious was a bit too spicy for me. Served with delicious fresh bread. I will try again. The bartender was attentive but not super accommodating.
