My co-worker took us here so I could experience eating at one of the oldest Suzhou restaurants. The one was surrounded by other restaurants which had long lines so I was a bit worried when we entered and were immediately seated. There was no more than a dozen tables filled in this fairly large restaurant. As a result service was very slow and we had to grab our own plates and utensils from other tables while we waited for our food.When the food finally came I found all the dishes to be well prepared, nicely presented and quite good. I guess that is what 100 years of experience brings??? The attached photos were the best dishes we ate:Seared scallops- we paid by the piece which was served in on a bed of rocks. Each was nicely seared on the outside and delicious.Xiao Lin baos - juicy inside but with a slight citrus tasteMushrooms- not the soft mushroom texture that I expected but firmer with very good seasoningFish - spicy goodNoodles - individually served that appeared to be hand made with a nice pork and green onion topping. Nice chewy texture.They were out of their squirrel fried fish (with a sweet sour sauce and unique presentation) so I will need to try it next time.Overall very good food but so so service. Food won out on the rating this time.
