Reviews on Chinese food in Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysia. Tropical Sandakan is a paradise for animal lovers. Watch turtles lay eggs at Turtle Islands Park, keep a giggly distance at a crocodile farm or share an impish smile with some of the residents at Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. The houses on stilts in the fishing village of Buli Sim Sim are perfect for sightseeing and photographing.
Things to do in Sandakan
A decent Chinese restaurant in Sandakan, located at Mile 4, Kim Fung township. Serving variety Chinese/Cantonese-style dishes, non-halal restaurant.New items will be added from time to time, do ask about new menu when placing your order. This restaurant is famous with:1. Sweet & sour fish (whole fish / fish slices) - deep fried fish with aromatic sweet & sour sauce. 2. Classic Roasted Pork - special recipe by the chef, roasted pork cut in slices, dip with special thick sauce, chewy & tasty.3. Stuffed Duck (Bat Poh Duck) - must order in advance. The glutinous rice are well-cooked, soft & fragrant. 4. Fried tiger prawn - always crispy and got it fried just-in-time.Thanks Bettycol for your review. It is our pleasure to be able to serve you, your family and friends.Hope to see you again soon.
I have tasted meat bak kut teh but not seafood bak kut teh. The taste of the seafood bak kut teh is different from the meat bak kut teh, more peppery. Overall not bad, something different, something unique.

Situated in Tanah Merah in Shek Tsui, over the water at the fisherman's village. Boisterous and full; some items sold out but beer available. Good standard Chinese style seafood cooking at reasonable price. Recent addition is lobster yee meen (again ala Hong Kong style) but at a premium price. Prawn yee meen better value.
Where to eat Seafood food in Sandakan: The Best Restaurants and Bars
Ocean King is a large local restaurant that is part of a fresh seafood shop. Our waiter recommended a number of local dishes for us to try - all of which were fresh, beautifully cooked and excellent. Highlights included: Prawns - two styles dry fried and in a mild sauce - dry probably my favourite; whole fish in spicy sauce; calamari deep fried in curry batter (unusual but very good). Local vegetables (both steamed and in spicy sauce) were outstanding - steamed were particularly good. We also had lemon chicken which was very good, as was the classic fried rice. Drinks included tiger beer and fresh coconut. Air conditioning also excellent (important as it was a insanely hot and humid day)!! - in summary a very friendly super place for lunch!

The Harbour Garden Café is uniquely situated in a stunning location at Sandakan Harbour Square. You can enjoy your meals at the interesting outdoor venue on quayside overlooking the waterfront. Open all day for lunch, tea break, delicious dinners and sump
The harbour is just a few steps from my hostel and we have eaten here several times. Traveling with a vegetarian, we are always looking for veggies and non-meat meals. This place has pretty good food, is very reasonably priced, nice views of the boats and harbor, And they serve beer too!

Fresh and delicious seafood with reasonable price. Located at Sim-Sim water village. Air-conditioned dining rooms. Open air dining area with sea view. Experience the Sandakan's sea view with variety of fantastic local food at great value of money. Drinks
We were met at the entrance by a lovely friendly hostess who advised us from the picture board as to her favourites- which incidentally were not the expensive dishes- so we chose two of her suggestions, fish with ginger, lemon grass, coriander, lime and garlic. A whole fish which was lovely and fresh and delicious followed by squid and clams served with vegetables. Very tasty. My husband and I wanted to try the local lobster which was served with butter and cheese. Again delicious for two lobsters !! Tiger beer and final bill very reasonable. This place does not have the bright lights and load music of 88 but would really recommend it. Lots of locals eat here. Final note toilets clean. Hostess phoned for a taxi for us and even phoned the taxi driver when we were in the cab to check we were home safely. Sad we are only here for one night.
