We were antique shopping in Columbia and decided to cross the river into Wrightsville. We chose the River House based upon the ratings from others. The restaurant serves American fare. The portions were large and tasted good. It was very inexpensive.

The sushi at Mitsuru is fresh, flavorful and reasonably priced. They have an extensive selection of rolls, and the sashimi portions are very generous. The miso soup is rich and hearty for a perfect starter. Friendly people and great service! We will return if we are in the area again!

The food selection and decor are very typical of most Chinese buffets, with a few above average items. The brown butter chicken is wonderful! It consists of breaded and fried chicken tenders drizzled with lemon and sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. Not exactly an ordinary Chinese buffet item, but I suggest you try it. In addition, the fried dumplings are excellent. They have a very thin, light wrapper with a seasoned ground pork filling that is steamed and lightly fried. I also recommend the shrimp egg foo young and their "must try" dessert; the flan with caramel sauce. OK, it's a little out of place at a Chinese buffet, but pass on all the other dessert items, and try it. One criticism. Unless you like very weak iced tea, pass and ask for a glass of water.

I have patronized this restaurant for close to 10 years. This past week I visited and found that the ownership had changed. The decor is still nice, the restaurant clean, and the staff friendly. But the food was bland. General Tso chicken - the staple of every Chinese restaurant in North America. How could that be bland? But it was. My colleague thought the food was "different than before" but did not mention if his was bland as well.

With the turnover of management at First Wok, we lost a great Chef who cooked us fabulous Chinese food for many years. A new Chinese takeout restaurant called JJ Panda opened on Pauline Drive about a year ago. I normally steer clear of franchise Chinese restaurants, but gave it a try. Some of the former First Wok employees and their Chef, are working at this JJ Panda restaurant. We ordered egg rolls, Lo Mein and Triple Delight entrees.When we got home and tried the food, we realized we had in fact reconnected with the former First Wok Chef. The egg rolls and entrees were just like we remembered. Fresh, great presentation, excellent quality and tasted delicious. My wife and I often talked about how much we missed the Chef at First Wok the past several years. It is great to have found him and know we can get excellent Chinese any time we want once again.My wife noticed they were extremely busy last night. I guess the locals have discovered this great find before we did.

Even though it is a take out only Chinese, The selection of food choices, and quality of food is the best in our area. We get take out every week and have always found the food fresh, delicious, and inexpensive.

We like Chinese food and of course we have our favorites. A recent out of town trip took us to Forbidden City, a buffet-style restaurant. They have recently discontinued their dinner buffet (lunch buffet is still running), so we opted for take out instead. And based on other's reviews that was probably a good thing! I have never liked buffets anyway. Food quality and taste goes south really fast on a steam table! Our group of three chose wonton soup and hot and sour soup, spring rolls, beef with broccoli and Happy Family and planned to share. The won tons in the wonton soup were fat and glossy and filled the bowl. Pretty good, but the hot and sour soup stole the show with heat and spice in every spoonful. Beef with broccoli was also good, but the Happy Family, with large shrimp, generous pieces of lobster, chicken and beef was the hit. Packed with stir fry vegetables in a light and spicy sauce, it was really good. White rice, which comes with each dish is the same white rice you get in every Chinese restaurant. I think of it as a kind of white bread -- a starch to soak up the juices. You don't want the rice taking center stage. The spring rolls were light and delicate, not greasy. I generally enjoy egg rolls more for the crunch than the flavor which always seems kind of mild to me. All in all it was enjoyable. We wondered if their decision to pull the buffet was for quality control issues or declining popularity? This is a good, basic neighborhood Chinese place. It's very clean and staffers are polite and friendly and check each order before stapling the bag shut and handing it over.
1. Number One Szechuan

Over the years, we have done take-out with No. 1 Szechuan many, many times, and have never been disappointed. Great place to eat. I was a little concerned when I saw that TripAdvisor had the restaurant as "closed", but when I drove past the restaurant yesterday (6/29/14), their signage was all still there, and their "OPEN" sign was flashing, so I am assuming that they are still in business, but I will also plan to call them and put in an order in the next week or two. We typically get their Happy Family, szechuan chicken, and other dishes, all of which have been very good. They do have seating in their restaurant, but for wahtever reason, we typically order from them as a take-out meal. If you are looking for good chinese food, this is a good place to go.
