Since my 100-year-old mother changed her eating habit from fried chicken to chicken egg foo young to sweet and sour shrimp, our family has earmarked China House in Sandwich, Illinois, as our new favorite restaurant. Located at 1201 East Church Street, on US Route 34, it features an all-you-can-eat buffet that never seems to run out of delicious items of soup, fried rice, chow mein, chop suey, lo mein, egg foo young, sweet and sour, pork, poultry, beef and seafood. We have experienced the buffet on several occasions. But my mother isn't as active as she once was so we have switched to the carryout. Our standard order is sweet and sour shrimp, chicken egg foo young, beef chop suey and chicken fried rice. With a few egg rolls. And, of course, management throws in a handful of fortune cookies. It's hot and fresh Chinese food that never disappoints and always satisfies your taste.

My family and I ate here twice in the same week during Spring break. The first time was very good but the second time was only okay. They did not have any sushi either time and that was a major disappointment. The price was a little high. We probably won't be back because of the absence of sushi and the quality. Staff was very friendly.

Don't expect to find chicken in your General Tso's chicken. The last 3 times I've ordered this dish, I've been irritated to find that more than half of the little balls of fried 'chicken' are actually completely meatless. This has happened enough times now that it's clearly not a fluke. There's a new place (Asian Kitchen) across the street and a little further down 47, by Pepe's and Coldwell Banker Honig-Bell that serves this dish. The sauce and breading is a little different, but at least you get what you pay for! Nice try on being cheap China Garden. You'll be rewarded for this when your customers go elsewhere.

Looking at this place, you might not be so sure about it. However, the food surprised everyone. It was actually good, and there are vegan and gluten free options. I would go back again.
