I'm not accustomed to having such good food served up in a restaurant in a shopping maul. Grandma's certainly put the effort into serving fresh, quality food with an interesting menu. I tried the pork with fish, which was outstanding, they also have a bread with ice cream, which I had to try. It is in fact a type of sponge cake, cooked in a box, I'm not doing it justice here, but it is worth trying, if your English you will want it at the end of the meal. The local beer and yellow wine are also worth trying.

This seafood restaurant was really good. I like the fact that I could "prepare" the meal by myself, picking whatever I wanted to eat. There was many things I could pick from. A lot of fish, crabs, squids, even snakesâ¦.., but they have also regular meet too. Quickly prepared in the kitchen and served on my table, tasted very well. This is very good place for seafood lovers. Itâs a big place, takes two floors.I strongly recommend this restaurant.RomanP

Not for the faint-hearted but for the "die-die must try" visitor. First find the restaurant - closer to the Baizhang Road entrance to Tianyi Square - opposite Kafe - in a corner. See the huge crowd hanging around outside - all waiting for their number to be called. Immediately manoevre/squeeze your way into the restaurant little foyer and look for the very loud young lady with a clipboard - ask her for a number and tell her the number in your party - also ask how many ahead of you - chances are you will have to wait for 20 or more tables ahead of you (meal times). Hold onto the piece of paper with your number on it and then go across to Kafe and order an iced coffee/tea and sit & wait in comfort for about 20-30mins and then go check on the number status. Do not miss your call or you will have to re-queue!!!Menu has pictures & English description but the order sheet is in Chinese but you can point to the picture and your server will fill out the sheet for you. Once inside and at your table - all is calm and well. Must try the sesame tang yuan (dessert), cold spiced beef tendon, signature tofu (smooth as silk), hairy crab xiao loong bau (not on the menu), fried rice, fermented rice wine with mini rice balls & anything which excites you from the pictured menu. Finish with the pear jelly as the minty taste leaves a lovely end note. Prices are very very reasonable & food comes very quickly So I rated service of food very good but service of waiting for a table could be much improved. I ate alone but made friends with the couple next to me and the family next to them and I let them all try my dishes and we all exchanged dishes as there's no way I could have finished everything I ordered - and I got to try stuff I did not order too..... very friendly people but beware not everyone is that friendly!!! I was very lucky.

I asked for recommendation of a good Chinese restaurant, and the staff at Marriott Hotel Ningbo suggested Zhuang Yuan Lou which was within walking distance. So I went there with my colleague. The restaurant was elaborately decorated in traditional Chinese style. There was a wall with names of the No. 1 scholars from the past dynasties. There was also a display of the robes, presumably for the No. 1 scholars.Probably because it was the night before Chinese New Year Eve and many people had already left the city to travel back home for the new year, the restaurant appeared to be under-staff. When we entered, there was no greeter at the door. We walked around the first floor and saw an area which appeared to be serving buffet, but no waiter there to greet us. We found an elevator and went up to check out the third floor. A server there told us that floor was for banquet rooms and told us to go back down to first floor to be seated. Finally, we were taken up to an isolated table for two back on the third floor, outside the banquet rooms. We were just happy to be able to find a table, next to some nice decorations, including Chinese paintings and a small water fountain. We studied the menu for a while, but no one approached us to take order. We had to catch the attention of a server passing by in order to find a waitress to take our order. Only half of the items we ordered showed up. Long after we finished the food, the rest of the items, including beverage, did not show up. No one followed up on us. We found a waitress who was serving the banquet room next to us. She was nice enough to help us. She genuinely apologized and promised to check with the kitchen. One more dish and beverage came, but still missing the last item. Then a supervisor came and told us that the kitchen ran out of material earlier but now the kitchen was making a new batch and would take another 5 minutes before serving. We waited and finally finished our dinner. By that time, it was already close to the closing time of the restaurant.About the food: It was all simple and fresh ingredients, nothing fancy, but tasted good. I really enjoyed the Tang Yuan (small ball made from glutinous rice flour) with black sesames filling, one of the Chinese New Year food.Price was reasonable. There were a few pages up front in the menu that showed items up in 1000 RMB range. But the rest of the menu items were drastically lower in price, with some items only a few RMB. Many items on the menu had option to be ordered as personal serving.Overall, food was great with reasonable price, very nice atmosphere, but service was lacking. Considering the timing being so close to New Year Eve and the attention from the nice waitress and the supervisor, I did not give the worst rating for their service. I hope their service is actually good under normal circumstances.

Went with 2 to this restaurant, because everybody was raving about it. When we arrived we found out that it was a very upscale, trendy restaurant and not for the regular tourist like us. The prices start at 398 yuan pp without the drinks as a menu, the second choice is 598 yuan and the last choice 998 pp. So a good place perhaps for business people who do not have to pay there own or the more fortunate who can pay the bill. We did not eat so we cannot rate the food. We only wanted to inform others that it is not for everybody.

Good food. Nice prepared but nothing so extreme special. But the location is perfect in a copied garden with all restaurants everywhere. You can park below but not get in dry :-(. How it's organised and created is real Chinese. Perfect for 80%. Luckely compensates the food.

I had dinner at Emerald Sea the evening I checked in at the hotel. After a long journey to get to the hotel, my taste buds were probably not in the best condition.Well, I chose a couple of plates: seasoned scallops and lemongrass chicken. I would have given a 10 to the scallops. Perfectly cooked (not chewy) and plenty of spices. The end result: the best dinner I had in a 10 days journey in China.Would definitely recommend this restaurant. However, bear in mind that ii is expensive, especially from a Chinese standard.
