Find out what Chinese restaurants to try in Middletown. Middletown is a city located in Middlesex County, Connecticut, along the Connecticut River, in the central part of the state, 16 miles (26 km) south of Hartford. In 1650, it was incorporated as a town under its original Indian name, Mattabeseck. It received its present name in 1653. Both were included within newly formed Middlesex County in May 1785. In 1923, the City of Middletown was consolidated with the Town, making the city limits of the city quite extensive.
Things to do in Middletown
Came here with some family Christmas night. Didn't know what to expect with no reviews... Although I liked the large tasty egg rolls and spare ribs my order of Kung Pao was def not Kung Pao. When I showed them the celery dish looked nothing like the pictures meal on the menu they simply denied it (I order it in other Chinese places so I know what yo expect). I didn't touch my meal and they didn't care. The place inside was NOTHING nice at all. Overall, prob never coming back.
China City has been a mainstay of the South end of Saybrook Road in Middletown for over 20 years. The cooks are friendly, the food fresh and well prepared. While it sports the standard menu items found in Chinese takeout kitchens across the country, they also have great specials. My favorite is String Beans and Chicken with the "House special sauce" sauce- a light preparation with a spicy soy and wine sauce. The cooks will also adapt their dishes to your specifications. Want some shredded chicken to go on top of the Cold Sesame noodles? No problem. Just ask and they are happy to improvise.

Been eating at Fotune Wok for at least 8 years and it has been consistently good. The place is nothing fancy located in a strip plaza on Route 66 but the food is good and the prices are very reasonable. They do have dine in with seating but don't expect anything fancy. It's very down to earth and what you would expect in a neighborhood take out Resturant. That said, the food is the draw and they have some of the best boneless ribs, wonton soup, fried wontons and pork fried rice in middlesex county. Those are the main staples we order however we have tried other dishes that were also good, general tao's chicken, steamed vegetables in garlic sauce, beef and broccoli, egg drop soup and more. As always when you order over the phone the wait is usually 10 minutes maybe 15. Try to give them at least 20 so as not to wait when you pick up. They have freebies when you purchase over a certain dollar amount IE: free egg rolls or free pork fried rice. Their lunch specials are a bargain and the menu is extensive.

This was our second visit and located in one of those plazas where if you blink, you'll miss it. The seating area was a lot to be desired. A couple of their empty tables were occupied by the owner's school aged kids' (or grandkids') books, etc. I deducted points because it felt like we were in a refrigerator while we were waiting for our lunch. We don't recommend that you eat there during the winter time.
The front desk person was incredibly rude, the order was wrong and food was not good. NEVER AGAIN. Travelers beware. Great Wall is much better and so friendly

Was coming from a high school basketball game and passing through Middletown so did a quick search for best Chinese food in Middletown and Fortune Garden popped up with two other establishments. A total of 17 reviewers on average on google gave it 4.6 out of 5 stars - are you kidding me?! In hindsight way too small a sampling of reviews but was rushed and obviously paid the price, actually $44 total for food that lacked taste and left a bad aftertaste. This quick serve restaurant is like one of those Chinese take out places on every block in Brooklyn. If you are not familiar with Brooklyn, NY, think bland, high sodium food that makes you wish you never eat there again. Ordered general tso chicken combination and this chicken was among worst ones we have ordered in Connecticut, pork fried rice which was tasteless, chef special chicken and shrimp which was supposed to be spicy and had 0 spice and shrimp tasted spoiled, tofu and broccoli in garlic sauce was ok and chicken lo mein which was the worst of all the dishes - we all tried it and then dumped it. Tasted like salted noodles with a little dry chicken thrown in. I can assure you that this place has been added to the "never to return again" bin. To the google reviewers: did you actually eat at this place?
Great place for takeout Chinese food. I may go there more than any other place when I want a quick takeout meal. The food is fresh and quickly prepared. Prices are average and the service is quick. Steamed shrimp is good with vegetables. I also have had sweet and sour pork, chicken, and shrimp. The soups are all hot and delicious. The chicken noodle is one of my favorites when you don't feel well.

I hate to write a negative review when the staff were so friendly, but the food at Asian Restaurant was truly dreadful. Dumplings, noodles, tofu--almost everything was awful--and nothing was fresh. The only bright spot was the "vegetarian chicken" dish which was actually tasty. We couldn't finish anything else.

Couldnât wait to return to enjoy dinner here after over a yearâs absence. I opted to relish my favorite entree, General Tso Chicken. Iâve tried it at many other places all across the country and the General Tso Chicken here is absolutely mouth watering. As usual the portions are more than ample at a unbeatable price of $17.00. The staff is always top notch and the bartender is a fantastic person whom I have known for over 10 years. Such a delightful man. The Forbidden City should be on your must try list in Middletown on your next visit. Only regret that I live over 1,000 miles away from this hidden treasure.
