Things to do in Highwood
Walking around downtown Highland Park on a Friday night....What to eat? Hmmmm something smells good. What is that? Oh it's the next generation Chinese Restaurant at the corner of Elm Place and Second St. Green Panda. Let's give it a try!Though the smells lured us in, the food was only okay. Might have been what we chose. I might be willing to give it another try sometime. We ordered the Pepper steak tomato and the shrimp in lobster sauce. Both were extremely bland. Maybe something from the Schezaun category next time. The Panda Bar next door is a different restaurant with a different menu and vibe. Don't confuse the two.

Been here before and still remain unimpressed..... sadly, few great Chinese restaurants in the area??Pot stickers were underfilled, egg rolls pretty good, mu shu beef tasted a bit off, chicken with vegetables was the best of the lot but the chicken was hardly identifiable in the dish, and then curry chicken in mild sauce which wasnât as good as a Kang panang ...Friends live near here and occasionally, like last night, order in when we are guests.... wouldnât return on my own dime!

Little Szechwan has been serving up a unique taste of Chinese cuisine to the North Shore area since 1985. What started as a family business, twenty-nine years later still operates under the same premise. We take pride in providing a pleasurable dining exp
Unpretentious restaurant has been around since 1985 -- offering dine in; carry out (compostable take-out bags); delivery; and catering options. The food is very good, the portions are large, and the service is wonderful. I especially recommend the home style tofu, which I haven't found anywhere else.Lunch specials. Street and lot parking
China Kitchen offers a nice lunch special till 3:00 p.m. -- and after that you can get it for an additional $1.50. There are three tables This is mostly a carry-out/delivery place.Find China Kitchen in a small strip mall on the north side of Washington, between Sheridan Road and the train tracks.Park on the street, or enter the parking lot going west. Because there are two other restaurants in the mall (Little Ceasar's and Tacos El Norte) some of the parking lot spaces are limited to 15 minutes.Let them know how spicy you want your food, and they will dial the heat up or down for you.
Iâve lived on the North Shore of Chicago for 15 years now and Iâve tried Chinese food from several places over the yearsIts modest storefront will be indistinguishable for passers by- and when I asked the proprietor (on my 5th visit)- why there was no tripadvisor lisiting- he said they moved from their old location in 2006, and laughed. I told him Iâd help him out and set up a new listing. This is frankly the best takebout Chinese food in the area - dont get me wrong- not nearly as good as the Chinese from Boston or New York City but for a Midwest place..its not bad and the best among the rest. Sesame chicken is their best dish. Bbq fried rice blows doors on any iâve had elsewhere.

After messing up our dinner plans, we needed to get food quick. Jin 28 had our order ready in 15 minutes. We ordered Vietnamese Style Noodle with Seafood (Pho) and Pad Thai with shrimp (large) (an extra $1 for shrimp). Two egg rolls were free with a coupon from their mailed menu flyer. The egg rolls (vegetarian) tasted good but were a bit scrawny. We were surprised that the Vietnamese Style Noodle with Seafood was soup (it doesn't say so on the menu, and we were Pho ignorant), but my wife enjoyed it. My Pad Thai had lots of tasty shrimp, but the noodles all stuck together (overcooked?) and the crushed nut topping was isolated to one side of the rectangular carton. Our regular Chinese carry-out has better prices, but the free egg rolls made up for the difference. We'll probably use them again.

This tiny, (nine tables) unpretentious strip mall restaurant has been serving tasty food at a reasonable price for a long time.Expect to find the standards: five kinds of mu shu; six kinds of egg foo young; tofu and vegetarian choices; five thai curries; etc. You can get brown rice as well, and there are daily lunch specials.Family-run and great service.
