Vledder has been in my heart since my childhood. Many Summer holidays spent with family and friends. Biking, reading prince Valiant. (A local Vivo supplied these strip books, after several years we had them all. Biking, swimming, landing on the moon, world soccer Argentina, lost it. Never forget this. Last weekend we biked true Vledder and noticed this restaurant. Why not? Friendly staff, good food and nice desert. (We ordered the buffet)

This was just happened across by two tired and hungry cyclists. Firstly if you are English do not expect that this will be the same as at home. The dutch palate seems to be a little different to ours and I suspect that as Chinese adapted their recipes to our tastes they also did with the Dutch. The restaurant itself was inspiring, a half pagoda in green and red with beautiful golden dragons. We ate the all you can eat buffet for E16 each. Food was cool but this is generally common throughout Europe we find. Menu was deep fried chicken balls - quite soggy in the middle, banana fritters, a very nice stir fried vegetable medley, plain quite tasteless fried rice, chilli beef, egg foo yung - somewhat overcooked, chilli crackers, fresh fruit, but nothing remarkable. did include a drink or ice-cream to finish off. One of the cheaper meals we had in the Netherlands - reviewed only because you should also review mediocre as well as good or bad. This rates in between poor and average and will do when all you want to do is fill your stomach up.

Same owners but they changed the name because it's not only Asian food anymore. They also have a grill now with yummy spareribs and steaks. But still there's is Tepanyaki and Wok. And everything is All-you-can-eat for a fair price and good quality (including wines and beers)

6 of us from Taiwan and Malaysia stayed in Giethoorn for 4 days. We drove to Steenwijk(about 10 mins)and found Shanghai Wok. The restaurant is big , can accommodate 80-100 people on the ground floor. The food is so delicious. We like the deep fried spring roll(with a very special sauce),Peking duck, chicken soup &tomato soup, satay........We spend Euro 20 per person(set dinner),and all of us were very satisfied with everything especially the thoughtful act of serving the food on candle-heated plate to keep the food warm .(never seen this before in any Chinese restaurant- see from the photo)Euro20 set dinner include a cup of coffee and we cannot finish the food.We went back for the 2nd day.Highly recommended for anyone who like Chinese food. It's worth traveling 5km from Giethoorn to Steenwijk.

These take-away meals are fantastic and huge - Tip: make sure you order by phone hours or day before you pickup. When I called with an enquiry they suggested I order over the phone so it would be ready at arranged time which thankfully I did for 6pm the next day. There was a very long queue of people waiting and ordering - must be a very popular place. I was served immediately when I went to the Cash Register which is on the other side of where people wait for or place orders. Our order was ready indeed at precisely the moment I walked in at 6pm so all I had to do is pay and be gone. There is a great and large mix of Chinese and Indonesian dishes to choose from. The Indonesian Rice Table we ordered for 2 people was fantastic and had 15 dishes for Euro 27 (A$31 in August 2012). Although it is called a rice table, we were offered a choice of 2 x rice or 2 x bami gorang (special noodles) or one of each. It came inclusive of 4 pieces of kroepoek (like shrimp crackers but the size of a foot long each), very tender meats and pork dishes, sweet & sour kraut, green beans and stew with ginger, etc. etc and to top it all off it also came with 4 x banana fritters... - we couldn't believe our eyes when we unpacked box after box :)If you don't want take-away than still go there - the restaurant looks absolutely cosy and clean and I am sure the taste of the food will be just as good if not better (if that is possible) because it is served straight from the kitchen instead of after half hour drive - as in our case. Note: You may need to allow plenty of time for it to be served if dining in if it is always busy and make sure you make a reservation beforehand in any case.

Great service and very flexible. Food is quite OK, but not very special. I am not sure how the specialities are, we just ordered regular dishes. However 4 star rating due to the good service and the flexibility. Just got extra baked rice without more to pay and lots of kroepoep. Overall good experience and great lunch. Just more then we expected.
