Have frequented this restaurant over the years. It was recently sold and changed management and more importantly, chefs. The most recent meal was terrible under the new management and chef. The food that used oil to prepare (such as anything fried or wok prepared) had a distinct 'rancid oil' flavor. There is no mistaking that taste if you've ever had food prepared with rancid oil. It's either the new management and chef don't care or are trying to get more use out of oil that should have been disposed of after its useful life.Never coming back.

Just went last Wednesday at 1pm and they were almost out of everything. I dunno if they had a huge lunch crowd but there weren't many people inside when we were there. When I didn't want to order they were kinda pushy said everything is available. I could see that they had no spring rolls, no orange chicken, no black n pepper chicken. Kinda rediculous it's the same food all day just make enough for the rushes!!!!
This underserved area finally has a HongKong style Chinese restaurant. We, heard of this place from friends who raved about it. Having tried every single Hong Kong style restaurant in Rockville and Wheaton, this restaurant will stem the hordes to those areas. We went twice in one week and both times the food and service were exceptional. From the friendly greeting of owner-Mr Shiu, to the attentive wait staff, we were delighted to finally have decent service from English speaking staff (since we do not speak Chinese well). We ordered the BBQ 3 item meats, the deep friend spicy squid, the tofu and meat hot pot, snow pea leaves, and beef and sour cabbage. We added a beef chow foon and a Cantonese Chicken chow mein to the above to compare these with others we have ordered. Not only were they super tasty, they were of good portions! The BBQ pork is a house special made by the owner's spouse with her secret recipe and sauce. Order early as they tend to run out of these items. Mr Shui stopped by to inquire about everything and he was quite sincere in trying to improve his operations. We were given a white almond gelatin for dessert and it was perfect as it was not too sweet.Parking is plentiful, but the spaces are tight. Decor is pretty good and the bathrooms were clean by Chinese restaurant standards. This place has gone through several ownership changes in the past few years, so hopefully this will last a little bit longer. Lines can be long on weekends as their seating is about 100. There are 6-7 large family style tables available. Nice goldfish tank at the front door.

Food is better than average for Germantown. Although they have very limited seating, take-out is the way to go.My egg roll, apparently baked, was a disappointment. But the pork dumplings were hand made and very good.

Stopped here for our noodle hook-up, on our way back north. ⢠Plenty of parking outside as this is in a strip mall.⢠Plenty of seating inside although a couple tables were filled with what appeared to Ownerâs/workerâs âstuffâ.⢠The place appeared, for the most partâ¦clean. Often times Chinese restaurants are not your ideal model of cleanliness but this place wasnât bad.⢠We ordered Lo Mein with beef and our orders were out to us in less than 10 minutes. The noodles had great flavor but the beef had a very odd ting of flavor that made me wonder if we truly were eating beef (?). Maybe the meat was ready to expire? Regardless, it wasnât horrible but it just really made us wonder what was in our meal. ⢠Pricing is in line with other Chinese restaurants. About $8/person.All in all, not a bad place but maybe stay clear of the mystery meat beef.

Our family wanted to try a different Chinese restaurant in or near Germantown so we looked on TripAdvisor and a few other places. We found House of Fortune and looked at their online menu. Everything looked good. We called and gave our order for pickup. We got egg rolls and spring rolls - all crispy and perfect. We also got wonton soup - tasty. Our entrees from the menu were pork fried rice and combo lo mein. We wanted some other things that we didn't see on the menu so we asked. They said no problem with ordering both beef with peppers and pork with snow peas. The nice lady who took the order said we should always ask if there is something we want that we don't see - they will try to make it anyway. We enjoyed all the dishes. Everything was ready within a few minutes and they included plenty of sauces for the egg/spring rolls. Good food, good service - what more could you ask for? They have some tables but it seems like it's mostly carryout. We spotted various dumplings that we want to try next time. We picked up our food but they would deliver up to 5 miles away - for just $1 (it's on their website). The price was reasonable for all the food we got. We ate all we could and there was enough for several more people. We will definitely return.

Small Family Owned Restaurant In Germantown
Love this place been going for 20 years. Has general Tsao chicken and an egg roll for dinner. Enough to have lunch tomorrow. The egg roll was very nice also. Just my favorite place.

Within a five mile radius, there must be a dozen or more chinese restaurants, and I've tried most of them. They range from just okay to inconsistent to very good. Cafe Hong Kong is very good. But, of course, that's strictly to my tastes. Different people, different tastes. What I like about CHK is their consistency. The food is uniformly good, well seasoned, and consisent. Seldom any surprises. If I have any criticism, it is the fact that "hot & spicy" dishes have been dumbed down for the American palate. If you do prefer those dishes with some heat, make sure you let them know. Or, if you're ordering take-out, ask them for a small container of hot oil.Another plus is the fact that the staff is easy to communicate with, which in some other restaurants has proven to be a problem.Bottom Line: By all means you should try this one. And be a little adventurous; if you see something on the menu that you've never had, order it. What's the worst that could happen? (chuckle)
