Things to do in Daly City
I donât frequent too many Chinese restaurants in San Francisco since I donât live here full time any longer. There is a flood of Chinese restaurants in the city, in Oakland, in peninsula. Each one has its crowd and a special dish people flock too. Rarely I have found in over 20 years a restaurant that does an âall aroundâ full menu with quality and flavor. I havenât been to a place that I was impressed with in years.Cabron Restaurant proved me wrong. Itâs an accident. I was at DMV, finished, and wanted to grab something to drink before I caught an Uber out to San Francisco again. I was walking in 40 degree weather with blowing winds, and I was freezing. I was walking by 90th/Junisipierra and saw this Restaurant and decided to run in for some hot tea and hot soup. The moment I walked in, the aromas and familiar smells took me back to my childhood when I used to walk in to the âold schoolâ Chinese restaurants on Piedmont Avenue. I immediately sensed I was in for a treat. I reviewed menu and saw the dim sum options and the dishes that were coming out. I ordered hot & sour soup (my private vetting dish to determine quality of next foods to come); and when it came out the immediate aroma hit my nose and I knew this was going to be like the childhood soup I remember. And it was!I moved onto a few dim sum (chicken shumai and eggplant stuffed with shrimp)- both were absolutely delicious. I was full but decided to take a few dishes home for my Father (whom I am visiting) to try: I took Peking duck (1/2 order) and Beef Fried Rice. Both dishes were delicious, fresh, and you can taste the quality of products: from the texture of buns for the duck, onto the lettuce and texture of rice from the other dish. Their menu had so many more things I wanted to try. I was tempted to order more, but saving my taste buds for my next visit. This is officially my âHome cooked, Old Schoo Quality cooking Chinese Restaurantâ very good Canton kitchen. I highly recommend to people seeking a simply delicious no thrills restaurant or foodies who like to pay attention to details of dishes they are familiar with all over the city...and of course, Dim Sum enthusiasts. Itâs not a massive variety (which I donât like), but itâs extended enough to have many choices and the main thing: Quality is Very Good-to-Excellent standards. In todayâs saturation of what seems to be millions of Chinese restaurants and takeouts...this quiet gem in Daly City has prevailed.Good for lunch, dinner, family, or socialHIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR CANTON FLAVORS

I ordered half of a roasted duck (chopped) to take out. Got home and was shocked at how little duck I actually got. Looked though the chopped pieces and I could not find any wing pieces (these are easy to spot), and I suspect I lost parts of the drumstick as well although I did not actually try to reassemble the chopped half duck.

Chinese Dim Sum and Seafood restaurant. We're only one in the bay area served all day dim sum, over 100 different items. Fresh and hand made, cooks when you order. Steamed seafood at the dinner time, served live lobster, crab, geoduck and sea clam.
Eight adults came for dinner on a Monday night. We asked for a quiet table so we could talk but were placed next to children playing very loudly. Thankfully they left after packing up their leftovers. All guests were seated in central area outside kitchen. The waiter that served us could barely speak English. So I ended up translating for my host in Cantonese.Since this is a seafood place, we tried to order seafood. Our host went to check on the "Fresh fish in the tank" but they looked pathetic and listless, so we skipped that. The waiter kept pushing river prawns as special of the day, how it was $25 here but the store was selling them at $28! My host wanted wasabi prawns, which they do not cook. We compromised on salt and pepper prawns but the taste and texture were mediocre, not fresh. We wanted to order scallops with asparagus- a fairly common dish. They only had scallops in the shell at $10 per piece so we skipped that. The Peking duck (skin and drum sticks) was good, as was the side dish( rest of duck with tofu. The beef with mix of mushrooms was ok, too thickly covered with caramelized hoisin sauce. To miao or young pea shoots were not young or tender but they were cooked nicely with a little garlic. The soup with real crab meat was a disappointment, it had something crunchy in it we could not quite identify. And as soon as it cooled down a little it tasted very fishy!I was someone's guest so no complains from me there and then but I would not consider this a good seafood restaurant.

We ordered the beef with Chinese gailan and the beef was very tender rivalling the steaks served in great steakhouses. The fried filet of sole was crispy and fresh. The white cut chicken moist and tender. Price is quite reasonable too. The place is modestly decorated and the service was adequate. Parking is plentiful right outside the restaurant. Come here for the excellent food at a reasonable price but don't expect obsequious servers.

Good Chinese dim sum. Consistent. Parking is horrible though. Getting the usual foods like Phoenix's claws, spare ribs, shrimp crepe rolls, etc did not disappoint. The skin on the crepe roll is not the best, but it is good though. Phoenix claws were big and meaty. Spare ribs were a bit fatty, but had chunks of meat as well. Tea is also good. Service was quick and cordial.

A dozen of us celebrated a little one's first birthday at this excellent emporium of edible Asian specialties. All the food was visually beautiful, but particularly the sushi and dim sum items. We enjoyed making a circuit of the buffet bars to inspect offerings before committing to choices on the plate.

I had some misgivings about this place when I agreed to come with a bunch of my wife's friends for lunch. This is a huge place that easily accommodated our group of 10 people. The food is all served buffet style, and the selection has to be seen to be believed. We started with sushi and some dim sum dumplings before moving on to shrimp (several different kinds), chicken (ditto), and noodles (ditto again). You get the picture.Frankly, I found most of the dishes mediocre. The pot stickers, for example, were doughy and suffered from sitting around on the steam table. This is a very popular place for lunch, particularly among the elder component of the population. Lots of gray hair. The table service, consisting of water, tea, and cleanup, was superb. I discovered more tea in my cup without asking and wondered when that happened. The price of this feast is certainly reasonable. Each share came to $18, complete with tip, after rounding up. Not bad for enough to last for quite a while. So long as you know what to expect, you'll enjoy this place.

As always the place is like a zoo. As soon as it opens, a lot of people are already waiting. Unless you know someone inside which a lot of patrons do, they get special treatments and bypass the long line which makes waiting even longer and UNFAIR. I donât like coming because of that. Luckily we have a friend that knows someone inside. Food is still good. Worth coming (if youâre patient!), but waiting for 2 hours, youâd be the judge and find out. Service is HORRIBLE! Getting someoneâs attention is another big problem. Getting your request fulfilled is another matter that the management needs to improve upon. Donât hold your breath, it wonât improve. When requesting a glass of water plus other things, a lot of times the waiters walk away without listening to your entire sentences, thus, you end up requesting multiple times. Donât come here if youâre not patient.
