There are many nice Asian restaurants in Iowa City with far more authentic character than HuHot. This is a chain restaurant with modern decor located in a suburban strip mall. Don't come here expecting to be transported to Beijing or Ulan Battar. That said, the food was good, and the unlimited buffet provides good value. There's a good variety of proteins, vegetables, noodles, and sauces that can be combined into a dish of your own choosing. The lne is perpetually long, but it moves quickly. Our waitress was indifferent at best, and she seemed very disappointed that we didn't opt for the drinks or appetizers she wanted to push. I really don't know why they even have servers here. Since pretty much everyone eats the buffet, they could just take your money at the entrance and do away with the extra staff. As it is, the servers don't seem to do enough work to merit a tip--though of course I did leave one. The base price of the buffet isn't bad, but adding on a tip makes it twice as much as the Noodles down the street.

Encountered rude staff that charged nearly 9$ for a kids meal and shorted my family on all entrees when I called them on shorting us they said offered me more with out telling me they would charge an extra 3$. 4 Shrimp is not a serving it wasn't even a spoonful. Never had this problem at other Panda Express. Will not be back.

We recently attended a sporting event at UI and ordered delivery from Kapok. It was flavorful and just what we ordered. We requested stir-fried mushrooms, (not on their menu), but they prepared them for us as a special order. They were perfect. We requested little to no oil on all our dishes, and they obliged. The delivery was timely and friendly. We were very pleased. Excellent meals and wonderful service. We will definitely order from here again! Great meals!

My wife and I had lunch at Taste of China when we visited Coralville recently. We both ordered hot and sour soup to start, then she had the kung pao chicken and I had the Hunan chicken. When the lady brought out our soup she said she just made it, and it was very hot. But it had way too much corn starch for thickener, so the texture was very unusual. It was also much sweeter than we are accustomed to. I ate most of mine, but didn't really care for it, my wife said she couldn't really eat her because it tasted like hot sweet soy sauce to her.The entrees were a totally different story. We both loved both entrees, we swapped plated two or three times. The Hunan chicken had nice big pieces of chicken and many large pieces of vegetable, mostly green pepper and broccoli, and it was well seasoned. The kung pao was great also. It had the large chicken pieces too, just the right amount of peanuts, and finely chopped veggies, and a really tasty sauce. We would go back for the entrees. As big as they are, you don't really need soup anyway. And the egg rolls were very good also.
