The interior of this restaurant looks very neat, clean and remotely stylish. It seems to be a popular place amongst the locals as virtually all tables were occupied on a Saturday evening. The appetizer that we had, a small pumpkin soup with additional bites, was quite tasty without being extraordinary. The pasta, however, was exceptionally overcooked and came in too big a portion. I have noticed that quite a few German restaurants tend to overcook their pasta, so this might be a local practice. Anyway, the dish itself was prepared with care, but lacked any direction. The service was effective. We paid about 65 Euro for two persons for two courses including a bottle of mineral water.

DIE TRADITIONS GASTRONOMIE Hotel - Kulinarisch - Tagung - Event - Feiern Erstes Haus am Platze als moderner Traditionsbetrieb im Herzen von Westerstede.
This restaurant is located at the small heart of Westerstede, a tiny town famed for its Rhododendrons. The building seems to be some old estate with its original foundations dating back to 17th century. Nowadays it is home to a typical German restaurant and a fine hotel. The Fischteller (fish plate) 'Westerstede' consisting of perch, plaice and prawn was very fresh, well-prepared and tasty. Much to our luck, the potatoes were cooked instead of fried as so often the case in Germany. We took pale lager, Jever Pilsener, instead of wine and that turned out to be an excellent choice. Although the restaurant looked deserted, the service was friendly. The price/performance ratio was nearly perfect: we paid about 35 Euro for two persons including beer.Well worth a visit when you're in Westerstede.
The restaurant was the venue of a large (approximately 40 people) birthday celebration. The wood-burning fireplace was on which made the beamed restaurant (filled with antiques) a cozy place to spend several hours. The service staff and the owner were extremely helpful, very efficient and kept the drinks and food coming at an amazing pace. Speaking of food, it was absolutely excellent despite the large number of people to be cooked for a served at once. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a place to celebrate an event or just a quiet meal for two. There are several dining rooms and two fireplaces as well as an outdoor garden area. I can imagine the garden would be heavenly when the weather is warmer. When I visit my friends again in this area, I will certainly stop there for a meal.
