As close as you will get to an authentic steakhouse in Germany. We Canadians are spoiled by the quality of meat we get here compared to that offered in Europe. This restaurant is not going to compare to Ruth's, Mortons, The Keg, but it does get you as close as you will find in Europe. If you need a steak, this is a good place to get one.

While on business in Cologne, some hotel guests recommended Restaurant Brucken. Upon walking in, we were greeted with warm smiles. The outdoor seating was booked, so we were sat at an open window to the outdoors within the restaurant. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. The menu offers tapas, in which we ordered the Tzatziki and also the Sheep Cheese drizzled in honey and sesame. Both were fresh tasting and vibrant! For main dishes, we ordered the schnitzel and pork back steaks. Both were amazingly flavorful, cooked just right, and well complimented by delicious fried potatoes and mushroom sauce. The portions were huge and we could have easily split a meal. Receiving good quality German schnitzel is sometimes a challenge, but this establishment hit high marks! We will definitely return!

This Bistro is always full because the food is great, the atmosphere friendly and busy and (considering the quality of the food and cooking) the value is great.I recommend arriving a bit early (5-6pm) otherwise you have to wait in line. Since the place is always full, be ready to share your table with others (generally nice people).I had the potato soup, superb. Take at least the medium size. Then the Dusseldorfer steak (great), then the triple sorbets (as great as they look in the picture). My table-mates (complete strangers) enjoyed the huge Wiener Schnitzel and Red Salmon, so I think these could be recommended too. This restaurant is worth a special trip to Dusseldorf. I shall go there again.

Toqued by Joachim Wissler since 2000, and holding three Michelin stars since 2004, Restaurant Vendôme is located approximately thirty minutes east of Cologne inside Grand Hotel Schloss Bensberg, the surrounding environs beautifully manicured and clientele largely well-heeled Europeans. One of over fifty starred-Chefs trained on the grounds of Traube Tonbach, a career that began in 1980 jumping indirectly from Schwarzwaldstube to Schloss Bensberg where a style marked by whimsy quickly caught the eye of critics, it is now nearly two decades later that Wissler continues to cook inside the small kitchen, a team at his side crafting edible works of art offered via one of several tasting menus.Light and airy in ambiance, just twelve tables and less than forty diners seated Wednesday through Sunday including weekend lunch, it is from underground parking that guests pass through gardens en route to refinements, staff proper but not at all stiff and happy to answer questions or grant requests.Priced €165 to €295 exclusive of Wine, each menu presenting choices along the way, it is even before decisions are made that diners are greeted with Aperitifs and small bites, a quartet of flavors immediately showing Chef Wissler’s fondness for modernity and highlighted by Goose Liver “Peanut Butter Cups” as well as an airy Cookie sandwiching hand-cut Wagyu topped in Osetra Caviar.Opting for Chef’s largest “symphony,” a nearly four-hour opus consisting of ten-courses that followed opening bites with warm Bread and Butter from Bernard Antony, it was while indulging in a Roll dotted by Olives that locally produced Riesling was poured, the minerality and complex acidity playing well of a first plate of thinly sliced liver “Mi Cuit” topped by Bivalves and no less interesting as a partner to Octopus lacquered by Beets next to Tabouli with a sidecar of Cephalopod Sausage atop Tuna Tartare.Lucky to visit during Spring, the region’s bounty and Joachim’s obsession with coaxing the most out of superior Ingredients both on full display, it would be difficult to deem either course three or four the meal’s best as both were magnificent, first a poached Egg tanned by Miso beneath Parmesan “Snow,” and then snappy Lobster served in two compositions with one brightened by Peppers and Tomatoes while the other found added sweetness from Melon perfumed by Vanilla.Saucing almost every dish tableside, aromas drifting upward as compositions were described at length, it was by roasting the remains that Char from Lech Valley took on depth to match roasted Leeks and balled Apples, Bones again coming into play as service piece for domestic Wagyu nearly raw with a bit of salt and condiments including Salted Plum and Creamed Corn molded to look like the real thing.Taking the Maître D's advice to finish with Lamb instead of Guinea Fowl, three cuts including Offal wrapped by a Crepe dazzling in part due to bold spicing covering a wide swath of Asia, it was transitioning from savory to sweet that fun again was on display via a composed Cheese dish featuring molten Fourme d’Ambert at the center of a Doughnut and Williams Christ Pear Sorbet atop Blue Crumbles on the side.Taking Cheese even sweeter for the first of two Desserts, Quark and a mellow Cow’s Milk variety forming both Cake and Crème Brulee accompanied by Raspberries, it was admittedly Vendôme’s most unexpected triumph that saw Asparagus used not once but thrice in an elegant finale, the bowl of Ganache particularly memorable before finishing up with traditional German Cookies, Marshmallows, a housemade Magnum and Snickers Bar.

Tonight, we went to the restaurant Late Weinschaenke in Meerbusch-Lank. What an awesome place! The restaurant is quite new. Alte Weinschänke is located in a pedestrian area in Meerbusch-Lank in an old building. The building is very well retaliated with a fireplace in the middle of the restaurant, comfortable chairs and nice tables. It's a beautiful mix of old and modern. We had a trilogy of salmon with a perfectly done grilled pice of salmon, a salmon tartare and a pice of Balik salmon. the main course was a wonderfully prepared halibut filet with sweet potato gnocchi and a fantastic foam sauce. The halibut was quite a large portion. Therefore, we skipped the desert but rounded of the meal with a glass of grappa provided by the owner. The service was excellent. I made a reservation for a few days from now and I'm convinced that I will not be disappointed. Pricing was not cheap but absolutely in line with the service and quality provided. Late Weinschaenke is defiantly a great addition for Meerbusch and the North Dusseldorf area.

We made advanced reservations for a Sunday evening and were very pleased that we chose this restaurant. It was a few minutes walk from the train, away from the tourist center of Koeln. We were promptly seated and given a menu with a variety of seasonal and classic Schnitzel dishes. I ordered the pumpkin and my partner ordered the mushroom cream sauce. We both thought they were the best Schnitzel dishes we'd ever had. We don't eat veal, but the pork was delicious and tender. The breading was light and crunchy - almost like a Southern USA cornmeal texture. It was truly heavenly. The portion was incredibly large and we wish we'd shared one - however, it was so delicious we ate a lot more than we thought we would! We definitely would recommend this place and would gladly return when again in Koeln.

Last week I was in Wupperthal with a collegue and I decided to eat something special. I called some friends, chefs members of Jeune Restaurateur d'Europe, and they suggested me Haus Stemberg in Velbert. So I decided to try it and I wasn't disappointed.Despite to its position, just along a road, this charming country house similar to a mountain resort hides one of the best chef in this part of Germany. The list is not very long and this is a good thing, because they choose only the best seasonal ingredients that are cooked to maintain all the natural flavours but showing the chef character that put its original touch on every plate (and that's why he got one Michelin Star!).Accurate staff and careful service, excellent wine list and unbelieveble cheeses cutting board give to everyone other reasons to not miss this lovely restaurant.
