We stayed in the Fletcher Hotel in Huizens Nautisch Kwartier in March 2015. After one night of eating near the hotel, we had to escape from the Vegas style fakeness of this 'Dutch Fishing village' and looked for somewhere in town instead! The Beau Geste was great because it offered vegetarian options even though it was a French restaurant. My veggie husband didn't fancy the main meal of vegetable tarts, but was able to make up a meal from the â¬4 plates that the restaurant serves, accompanied by a generous portion of chips for â¬3. We saw others ordering these plates tapas style, and there were really good options amongst them if you ate meat and fish. I choose a pork dish with mushroom sauce and rosemary potatoes which was very tasty. The fact that this restaurant was full in March, whilst the more flash eateries on the Nautisch Kwartier were mainly empty is testament to the fact that the Beau Geste offers good tasty cooking with no gimmicks at prices that don't make you squirm. Not haute cuisine maybe, but a filling, pleasant meal served by friendly staff.

We went into a room with no other people, since we had a 20-month-old with us and, well, you're never quite sure (he was fine). The starter, carpaccio with shavings of duck liver, was generous, fresh and lovely. The ribs were sauced ribs, and although I ordered the spicy ones, they were really not spicy; still, they were very good. In fact, everyone's meals looked lovely. I also really like that there is no "children's menu" but simply the offer to make a half-price, child-sized portion of the menu's regular offerings. I wish everyone would do this. The wait staff -- from the waiter who high-fived our toddler to the one who added cream to his dessert -- were outstanding.

I have dined last winter in this restaurant with Dutch friends who took me here. You need the car, I presume taxi from Amsterdam would be quite expensive. Over all, great, professional service . Somehow I think it lacks of great Dutch sense of Humor, but staff was knowledgeable of wine and food .Other issue was a slow service/ restaurant was busy, but we needed to wait almost 45 minutes of our food. Thank goodness company was good.Food: very good. My soup (Hot)was unbelievable good, Lamp was tender and tasty, desert (even it was just ice cream, but I am Ice cream fan) was very good. Wine recommendation fro m waiter good. Not a typical expensive recommendation but reasonable price for good wine. Over all experience on my second visit: Good place which I would recommend Not your tourist type of the restaurant, but a proper, good DUTCH restaurant with great food and Wine. When Dutch do something well, boys they do it Well. Thank you Ps Total Bill Euro 244/ 4 people each had ,3 aperatives, 2 courses, 3 deserts, and 2 bottles of Sparkling water and one bottle of white wine !
