Find out what Central European restaurants to try in Mechelen. The picturesque town of Mechelen, a hidden Flemish gem, sits between Brussels and Antwerp. Students of the world-renowned Carillon bell-ringing school provide an atmospheric soundtrack for sipping coffee at a sidewalk café in one of the town's charming squares. Many pedestrian areas make this a delightful town to promenade about, admiring hundreds of listed buildings and monuments, many dating back to 16th century. Highlights include Gothic and Baroque churches and the famed St Rumbold's Tower.

Relaxed ambience in a beautiful historic building. Mains were vegetarian pumpkin Thai curry, Indonesian chicken curry and Mexican chilli. All were acceptable, tasty but just a little bit too toned down; making the mains more exciting would lift this food experience. The wines were not well matched to the food - one cheap supermarket variety and one eco wine - we went for the latter and it was smooth, but not strong enough to accompany this type of food. The highlight was the desserts: pannacotta nice, mousse nicer, and lime speculoos cheesecake the star of the meal.

Had a business lunch in their restaurant. Braised pork cheeks in a truly fantastic sauce, my colleague had an excellent fillet steak and peppercorn sauce. Do try this place.

We had a starter, asparagus with smoked eel, tasty, nicely served, but for 18 Euros you expect more than the quantity you expect to be an amuse! The main dishes were fine, but 29 Euro for a small piece of cod-fish, sides such as a few wedges of potato (5 Euro extra), veggies (starting at 5 Euro extra) have to be ordered and paid for separately. That makes a simple dish very expensive. The wine was good.A surprise when we received the bill, a 70 cl bottle of tap water is charged 6.20 Euro! Sorry guys, but that's really, really far over the top!

We decided to have dinner here before hitting the airport. It was a good decision. Service was pleasant and efficient. Great atmosphere. The food was happy mix. Local interpretation of dishes but well presented and good to eat once you except the quirky add ons. Classic Belgian dishes on menu as well. We will be back to try them out.
