Restaurant Schmitte

The restaurant was erected on the foundation of the village blacksmith that burnt down completely in the big fire of Grindelwald in 1891. Hence the name "Schmitte" for blacksmith. Tradition is very dear to us. Thus our kitchen team creates a unique combin

Restaurant Schmitte is the fine dining option in the 5 star Schweizerhof hotel. On the evening we visited, in the low season, the restaurant was virtually empty. My veal sweetbread starter was fine, and my wife reckoned that her scallops starter was underseasoned. For main, I had filets de fera - one of the filets was decidedly overdone, and the quality of the fera was also not of the same level to which I am accustomed at Lake Geneva. My wife's main, a skewer with three different types of meat, was ok. All in all, we left a little underwhelmed.Dear guests, thank you very much for your recent visit of our restaurant "Schmitte" and for sharing your impressions. We highly appreciate your feedback which we have already forwarded to the chef and the waiters as well. But we also highly depend on your feedback right at the table: if a course is over/under done please inform us the moment you are here, so that we might correct it for your experience's and satisfaction's sake.Kind regards, yours Anneliese & Otto Hauser-Seger.

FANTASTIC. Recommended Fondue in Grindelwald. Myself and my wife just had the best dinner in Switzerland. Don’t eat pasta or pizza in Switzerland, leave that for Italy. You must eat & try what Switzerland is famous for and that’s Fondue. The restaurant Bellevue-Pinte is a lovely typical Swiss restaurant which serves great traditional Fondue, highly recommended. The all female staff are great and speak English. The locals eat here. They have an outdoor cat . They are busy, so it might be advisable to book/ reserve in advance. Thank you restaurant Bellevue-Pinte.

Pros:- Its in the boundary of the railway station, so accessibility wise - very easy to locate and go. Also the place is quite big and has many tables. However our overall experience was not good!. We went with our family and had kids. The waiter who was attending to us was a bit rude in her behavior and was not cordial with the kids. We ordered the fondue (as their signages claimed that was the best fondue in town), but we were disappointed with it! Other dishes were also not worthy to be mentioned!. In a new place you often look for suggestions and the waiters mostly help on this. However we didnt get any.

We asked for a little more time when the waitress came to take our order. She came back a few minutes later and said “can you order now, all the other guests have already ordered”. The waiter was just as bad - he gave my kids the nastiest look. He was carrying food out to customers sitting outside as we were entering the restaurant and he nearly tripped over our kids. I understand he’s in a rush and my kids were in his way. But it’s not like my kids were running around. We were just waiting to be seated and the entryway is small. On top of the horrible service, the food was awful and there were flies everywhere. We ordered a few rosti - one was basically a hot dog with egg and hash browns. The Dracula nightmare was a very bad nightmare. We were here for dinner and 2 of us didn’t feel good the next morning.Dear guest, we are very sorry about the bad experience you had to do in our restaurant and would like to apologize for all circumstances caused to you. Please excuse us!

Staff were friendly enough, but my main course (the trout) was quite bland, and the portion very small - and I had deliberately chosen the "large" portion size. Looking back at the many 'excellent' reviews, I have to confess that I'm suspicious: look at them yourself and make your own judgement. The view was wonderful, but would I go back again myself? Sorry, but no.

We were in the area as supporters for two runners in the ultra trail runs...The places along the Dorfstrasse tend to be Brasserie style. But the Belvedere provided all one could expect of a high class Restaurant without being in anyway more expensive. We booked and our name was remembered..a table on the balcony..clean tablecloths, rolls,water..attentive service...good to see student waiting staff. The trout was well presented, sophisticated in taste and generous. The same applied to the Sorbets...a marked contrast to one of the « Brasseries ».So a hidden gem. Has it to do with fact it is proudly run the third generation of a family and not by a chain?Dear Restaurant guests, there were many runners in our hotel and also many supporters. Already a week before, several runners were staying for their training. Many thanks for having visited our restaurant. We are very happy to read, that you enjoyed the service and the food. I imagine that you will be coming again next year. Thank you also for the wonderful review. With best regardsUrs-B. Hauser, owner
