Reviews on Central European food in Badenweiler, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. Badenweiler is a health resort and spa in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, historically in the Markgräflerland. It is 28 kilometers by road and rail from Basel, 10 kilometers from the French border, and 20 kilometers from Mulhouse. The permanent population is about 600; the nearest big city on the German side of the border is Freiburg, about 30 kilometers away. Badenweiler lies at the western edge of the Black Forest. It is sheltered by the Blauen, 1,164 m (3,820 ft), and the climate is excellent. Its parish (Evangelical) church (1897) was built at the foot of an 11th-century castle which belonged to the margraves of Baden and was destroyed by the French during the wars of Louis XV.

This was our second visit here in a couple of months. The first time my husband and I came here, we were surprised at the pretty little patio behind the guesthouse which is cut off from the parking area by flowers and bushes. We opted for the daily menu which was exceptionally good value for money. When we came back again with friends, we also ordered the daily menu and wondered if it could be as good as the first time. It certainly was. Wines from the area are very good and reasonable, but the wine list offers a good variety. The service was friendly and efficient, but you can expect the odd delay when they are busy serving inside and out. However, the environment is so relaxing, that you hardly seem to notice! If you want to eat outside during the warm summer months, a booking is recommended as there are a limited number of tables. The interior looks charming and understated, and this family-run guesthouse/restaurant seems to frequently cater private parties and dinners. Outside the main dining room, the narrow green corridor leading to the toilets is absolutely charming!

This was or 3rd time here. The food never disappoints. I had deer venison with spatlzel and it was excellent. Their house salad bar is plentiful, their local beer excellent. Can;t say enough good things about it.
I enjoyed an excellent 25 Euro menu featuring chanterelle mushrooms in the starter, soupp and main course. The staff were very friendly.

My wife and, accompanied by two dogs, ate in the Douce restaurant of the Hirshen hotel. The restaurant is bi-cultural (French/German) and offers an outstandingly light cuisine based on super fresh, quality products. Service is warmly welcoming and very friendly and the wine list features a broad selection of local and other (mostly French) wines. One minor criticism: we felt that the individual dishes of our 5 course menu could have had more differentiated tastes. Alternatively, it could have been that, used to more highly spiced food, we missed the some of the subtlety of the tastes on offer. In any event, we give the owner, the chefs and the excellent service presonnel the benefit of the doubt! Viator Coloniae.

What can be better than going for dinner on a snowy white evening to a village inn/restaurant where the food is delicious and the decor soo very cosy??!! It was a wonderful experience....the snow outside and all the Christmas lights and Christmas trees, then the warm ambience inside. It has been in the hands of the same family for 250 years and has been a restaurant all this time. How can it not be cosy?? - Low ceilings, wooden beams, an old green enamelled furnace (don't actually know what it is called), a decorated Christmas tree, wooden seating all around and old household items used in the decor. And, above all that, we had a delicious meal. I chose the menu - soup, main course and dessert for 26E. All perfect.I cannot recommend the Ochsen enough. If you are ever in this area of Germany, I highly recommend you to visit.I understand it is also a guesthouse, but, we did not see the rooms so I cannot say anything, but, judging from the restaurant, it must be a very authentic and special experience to stay here.

Very nice setting on the terrace in the middle of town. Excellent service and delicious food -our waiter (Herr Kramer) was great. A good offering of tasty, hearty German cuisine that was laden with delicious, seasonal asparagus. Lunch for six with drinks and appetizers was about 125 Euros.

Excellent and traditional kitchen with modern elements (patisserie, molecular kitchen), but just right so quality and taste do not suffer. Not cheap, but excellent products and traditional cooking with a modern twist justify it. Nice ambiente on the terrace - quality everywhere, from the furniture over the table cloths to the gardening. The best non-Michelin-stared Restaurant I have eaten at for a long time.

Potatoes, ham, bread, eggs, cheese. A lovely mélange of smells and tastes in this cozy family restaurant. Service was great despite the crowd. Wine selection is great (all local German).
