Chichicastenango, also known as Santo Tomás Chichicastenango, is a town in the El Quiché department of Guatemala, known for its traditional K'iche' Maya culture. The Spanish conquistadors gave the town its name from the Nahuatl name used by their soldiers from Tlaxcala: Tzitzicaztenanco, or City of Nettles. Its original name was Chaviar.

Don Pascual was recommended for its WiFi, which is very good, and the bonus was delicious food. I had chile relleno--stuffed chile with rice and beans--and they substituted the ground meat stuffing with a chicken/vegetable stuffing that was excellent. Very large liquados (smoothies) of melon and banana quenched our thirst. There is a balcony for al fresco dining, the best part of which is that it overlooks the famous indigenous market with the Santo Tomas church beyond. There are two tables inside with electric plugs in the wall--a major advantage when one's computer needs charging! Don Pascual will definitely get a return visit the next time we are in Chichicastenango.

My large group of 12 had breakfast almost every morning at this lovely upstairs restaurant. We pre-ordered our breakfasts because we were a large group.Had something different each day - and they were all wonderful.(scrambled eggs, fruit plate, waffles, pancakes......)They have free WI-FI and on the day they forgot to bring the modem in, someone went home and got the device and brought it is......so we had our WI-FI.The best service and food.
