Reviews on Caribbean food in Colon, Colon Province, Panama. About 50 miles northwest of Panama City, Colón is home to the northern gateway of the Panama Canal as well as Afro-Caribbean descendants of those workers who helped build the canal in the early 20th century. Colón’s greatest claim to fame—and the main reason visitors come here—is the Colón Free Zone, a massive shopping showroom where wholesalers, retailers and the general public shop. You’ll also find Colón 2000, a cruise-ship port with restaurants, a supermarket, and shops selling duty-free merchandise. The most scenic way to travel here is by way of the restored Panama Canal Railway, featuring elegant, wood-paneled and carpeted rail cars (based on 19th century designs) that takes you on a hour-long journey through the rainforest to Colón.

A bit apprehensive after reading reviews but our experience was reasonably good. Yes service is laid back, typical down here and they over charged by $2 on the special did not want to correct bill so got no tip. But the seafood soup was very good and ample portions @ $7.Colon has little to offer cuisine wise, probably best spot in area. Removed a star due to overcharge.

beautiful view with wonderful seafood, prepared fresh while you enjoy the view from the beach. We had amazing shrimp and ice cold drinks, while we sat on the bay.
Just 1/2 block from Melia Hotel at Panama Canal front gate. Safe to walk there at night. Opens at 6:30 or 7pm. Very little English spoken by staff, but some English on menu. Food is fresh, excellent quality, reasonably priced and beer is ice cold. Google reviews also available.

I and two friends stayed at the hotel and used the restaurant. This place serves, predominantly, the yachts using the marina. The yachts there are all serious ocean cruisers not weekend sailors. I think they must be a very tolerant bunch because the hotel and restaurant gave a very poor service. The hotel is in serious need of refurbishment and the service in the restaurant was appalling...a wait of 3/4 hour for a burger!! The barman had a severe attitude problem and was prone to stop serving you half way through getting your order in and going off to do something else and returning 25 minutes later. They have a new manager who is all too aware of the shortcomings so I hope the owners back him to the full and I really hope the place improves as it could be such a draw. It has, potentially, a great future if they want it.
