For diner food, it is actually very good. Not overly greasy. Dollar fries (French fries in circle shape) are a favourite. They have specials for seniors. There is limited seating but you can also sit up at the counter like the good old days. Most things can be customized (add this, leave out that). Good quality coffee. I have never ordered it but I see the burgers are âHUGEâ and people seem to really like it. There is usually only 1 choice of pie. Popular place for breakfast. Prices are fair. Can be very busy at times so keeping up with floor sweeping, coffee refills, quick service at the cash...can suffer. Just have patience.

Went with a handful of girlfriends to share apps and have a couple drinks. Great location. Lots of parking. Service was fast and friendly. We shared some apps which were absolutely great. Wings, mushroom caps and curds were our favorites. Definitely would go back. Prices were very reasonable and menu had lots of selection.

Quality food can be hard to come by these days where the restaurant industry is now focused on the customer perception through intense branding and stylish ambience. Well, Hard Stones Grill has a different belief! Our vision at Hard Stones Grill is not to

We were returning home from celebrating (Canadian) Thanksgiving with our son and his family, and decided to stop in Kemptville for a late lunch. Since our "go to" restaurant, Salmanders, was closed for the holiday, we stopped at this eatery, our first experience of this restaurant. Service was speedy and friendly. The washrooms were basically clean. We had no major complaints. I ordered the baby beef liver, requesting extra veggies instead of fries (I am following a keto diet), and a side garden salad. My spouse decided on a Chinese special with egg roll, chicken vegetables, sweet and sour chicken balls, and chicken fried rice (with a rice pudding dessert). We both had coffee. The food was up within about 12 minutes. My salad and my spouse's egg roll came first. My only complaint with the food would be that the lettuce had seen better days. It was mostly still crisp, but it was also browning; there was a good variety of purple cabbage, onions, carrots, and tomatoes. The egg roll was deficient in meat. Our main course was on the table before we could complete our starters. The food on each plate was more than ample. I had chosen the 2-piece liver dinner. There must have been close to half a pound of meat, and it was both tasty and tender, immersed in gravy and onions, topped with several slices of bacon. The vegetables--broccoli, caulfilower, and carrots--were about half the plate. With a little salt and pepper, they were fine. My spouse's Chinese food almost overflowed her plate. In fact, she could not finish the fried rice. The rice pudding, made in-house, was sweet and basic, just a few spoonfuls. The coffee was acceptable and continually refilled. The total cost, with a 15% tip and 13% taxes, was just a tad over $45. It was good basic food, but when I want to spend that much and it's open, I'll continue to visit Salamanders.

Taking a day trip with friends to Merrickville, Ontario, we arrived at and left too early for supper. I had researched restaurants in the larger area, and had come upon Salamanders in Kemptville (about half an hour away) as highly recommended. We took a few detours en route, and arrived at Salamanders just about supper time. I could not recommend it for those who are fully disabled as it is at a lower (i.e. basement) level in the building. I have walking problems, but with stair rails, not a problem. At the foot of the stairs, there is a landing from which one may proceed out onto a large river-side patio or right into the restaurant. It being a coolish day, we opted to stay indoors. The dining room was clean and crisp with modern and comfortable furniture, and we were seated at a table. Our hostess/server was friendly, and we at once received menus and got water with lemon. Deciding on our food took awhile--there were so many great choices. Our friends ordered fish and chips, my spouse decided on a steak sandwich, and I chose the taco salad with steak. The biggest deficiency was that the fish and chips were just that--cole slaw, a traditional accompaniment, was extra cost (not good considering the wee bit that arrived!). About 20 minutes later, our food was served. My taco salad was in a good-sized shell (very tasty!), filled with the traditional lettuce, tomatoes, etc., with a nice sized piece of steak (perfectly grilled to medium rare!) atop it, accompanied by sides of sour cream and salsa. Sadly, there was no need for either, for the usual "bite" of Mexican spices was conspicuously absent! My spouse had an equally well portioned medium rare steak on a bun smothered in cheese, mushrooms, and onions, paired with a large Caesar salad. Our friends' fish and chips were, if anything, larger than one usually receives elsewhere, and both fish and chips were pronounced excellent. My taco salad at $18 was the most expensive meal (note: the menu prices on TripAdvisor are out of date). All in all, an enjoyable experience, although the couple of changes observed here would make eaters' experiences more enjoyable!
