Where to eat Cajun & Creole food in Lafayette: The Best Restaurants and Bars

March 13, 2020 Hector Krause

Find out what Cajun & Creole restaurants to try in Lafayette. Founded by the Acadians in the 19th century, the legacy of Louisiana's French, Spanish and Caribbean ancestors comes together in Lafayette, creating a city with, amongst other things, a vast selection of restaurants serving everything from spicy po'boys to crawfish etouffee. With its lively street festivals, impromptu Zydeco concerts, historic plantations and food markets where locals still order their plate lunches in Louisiana French, Lafayette is the heart of Cajun country.

Grew up in Lafayette and have been going here as long as I can remember. Something really special about these burgers! Wish I had the recipe so I could make them at home in Texas! My mom used to order over the phone then drive to the side lot and honk the horn, then curb service! Great memories! Wish they still did that!! Lol. PLEASE don’t change a thing about this place! ❤️ Judice Inn Thank you for the great review! We appreciate your patronage

Spent the night in Lafayette on the way to a family reunion. Dinner here was a belated birthday celebration. A beautiful, quaint historic building. Very comfortable dining room with a warm atmosphere and where you're not rubbing elbows with the next table. A smaller but elegant menu. Everything we had was excellent. Also had a good wine list that wasn't overpriced. You definitely need to give this one a try.

Love the decor and the setup of this restaurant. Great service from the time you enter to the time you leave. Food is spectacular. Great flavor and properly proportioned. My only complaint was that it was noisy. Everyone seemed to be talking so loud as to talk over the table next to them which made the place loud.Thank you for your review! Yes, it can get noisy when we are slammed, such as when we have a pre-concert crowd. It is not typically that loud. Thanks again for your wonderful review of our food, service and decor!Steve S. I was looking forward to visiting Don's after an absence of at least a year. It's just that...it holds nostalgic value for many travelers like myself (and Lafayette residents) but doesn't really measure up in seafood quality. My shrimp gumbo was just muddy water, it would appear, with a few morsels of tiny shrimp. The seafood platter featured small shrimp in a variety of preparations, but with the common ground of....average, at best. It was all bland and tepid. A disappointment. On the bright side, drinks were stiff and service was attentive. I wish Don's delivered on quality to match the semi-steep prices and the expectations of first-rate food.

The crawfish omelet is excellent! The omelet was hugh and packed with crawfish. Definitely the best item on the menu. The smothered rabbit was also excellent. Can't get food like that up north. Staff was friendly and service was quick. Only reason no 5 star rating was because most of the sides were just so so.

This was my second trip to Louisiana Crawfish Time. The crawfish and boiled shrimp were excellent size and very nice! We got the regular (non-spicy) variety but the crawfish were still quite spicy. I prefer seafood to be boiled in the spices rather than seasoned afterwards. There was too much spice on the exterior of the food and was a little off-putting. The service was excellent and could not have been better. I would certainly return just would not get the boiled seafood.
