Where to eat Cafe food in Winnipeg: The Best Restaurants and Bars

November 12, 2019 Vivienne Hutton

Find out what Cafe restaurants to try in Winnipeg. Any city that can be the butt of a Simpson's joke ("That's it! We're all going back to Winnipeg!") and simultaneously one of the most vibrant cultural centers in Canada is tops in our book. The city's history of isolation and self-sufficiency means that Winnipeggers are unpretentious and sincere (and fun-loving enough to name Homer an honorary citizen). Though the winters are long and cold, there are plenty of indoor activities to both keep you warm and stimulate your imagination.

I was taken here for lunch when visiting from the UK. This busy restaurant manages to serve and cope amazingly quickly with nearly all the tables taken! We had a very bright and cheerful server who patiently explained several things on the menu for me.The Cheddar and broccoli soup was wonderful and the Quesadilla was amazing. As for dessert -wow!!Compared to so many other places we had eaten in Canada which were overpriced and poor quality, when I paid the bill I thought I was only being charged for my meal!!Thank you so much for coming such a long way to visit us ;) I will be heading over the pond this month. I hope I get the same great service over there!

I find Stella’s overrated although this is probably my favourite location as it’s big and has the patio. That said, the parking lot is way too small for the size and street parking is often hard to find (such as today). Food was good not amazing and the service friendly but too busy to be attentive enough. Not a place that I would regularly go.

A nice find on the other side of the Provencher bridge. This is not a fancy looking place but the food was rich and tasty. Some of the best mussels and fries I’ve had in many years and the beef bourguignon my friends had was equally enjoyed. While the staff was very nice the service was a little inattentive.

Great downtown deli in the heart of the business district of Winnipeg!I have been eating at Nathan Detroit's for over 30 years and it always delivers on fresh and high quality food, generous portions, fast/great service and good value for money. Love the homemade soups. Their extensive menu choices could cater to any palette, offering robust traditional deli fare to lower calorie choices for breakfast and lunch. You can also custom order exactly what you want. Always a nice smile and greeting from the owners Brenlea and Karen which is pretty special. Have used their catering service for business lunches and they are happy to customize a luncheon menu for you. Great energetic vibe and sometimes you may see some of the "who's who" of Winnipeg enjoying a meal in a relaxed environment. Go, try, you won't be disappointed!Thank you for your loyalty all these years! With all the options available to you, it is our honour to welcome you to Nathan’s for both your dine in and catering needs. We really appreciate you taking the time to write such a lovely review and look forward to your next visit!

This reataurant is located in the basement at a building in downtaown Winnipeg. I had a very good brunch of "Fried chicken on toast". The sauce was delicious. The restaurant was full of diners and we had to wait for about half an hour to get our table. The prices were reasonable and the food was very tasty. It was interesting to see the chefs preparing the food in the kitchen which was open and in plain sight of the diners.
