Common Grounds is behind the "four corners" and hard to see. It oddly rivals other restaurants for some of the best food in Speculator; this is, in part, because both Melody Lodge and Inn at Speculator have set the bar so low, it wasn't hard to pull pole position with decent diner food. But, hey! For the price point, it was great! We did have to help bus tables and help our waitress ring up what we had, but given the overall kindness of staff and refreshing cleanliness of the environs (vs. the filthiness of Inn at Speculator), I can't help but give thumbs up.For you heathen travelers out there, but forewarned that each time we have gone, there is a lot of Jesus talk in the air. This is not a shock given the Camp of the Woods facility very close by. Also, note to management, I'm sure you make decent month with all the made-in-China faux-authentic Adirondacks nick-nacs, but I do dislike having to walk in each time and have to pass through the "store" to get a table. However, I don't mind seeing the recommended books on the wall.Overall, Common Grounds is a safe bet. No surprises, but safe... esp. if you love Jesus.First, thank you so much for taking the time to write a review about our little cafe, even going so far as to say it is some of the best food available in Speculator! We strive to provide a superior product and service each and every time a customer sets foot in our door! Please let me apologize that you had to "help our waitress ring up what we had" while you were there. This summer we have rolled out a new point of sale system that (in theory) should absolutely streamline our process and make us even that much more efficient. Unfortunately, this system works via our wifi connection, but on this particular day, there was a widespread outage of both internet and cell service, encompassing much of the county for most of the day. The devices on the system couldn't communicate and therefore the cashier wasn't able to just pull up your bill as should normally happen. It was a glitch that was out of our control. Thank you for understanding and helping them out. My staff is great, I am glad you got to experience their kindness even though they were dealing with a failed system on a VERY busy day. We hope to have the opportunity to serve you again soon!
