We asked a local old-timer for a good place for lunch and he immediately suggested Café Uno which is reportedly regularly patronized by residents and tourists alike. The interior is relaxing and laid-back, quietly homey and very comfortable. They offer all the dishes Ilocos Sur is famous for, and more. It is actually part of a âtrioâ of food establishments, the other two being Uno Grille (opens at 2:00pm for the late-night crowd) and Kusina Felicitas, all just a short walk from Calle Crisologo.

With a convenient location near Calle Crisologo, this modern cafe offers great beverage choices and a decent food menu. We just wanted something quick and light for dinner after the heavy local cuisine we had for lunch. We opted for a mixed green salad and a calzone with a local twist which were both fine. The price was right. The atmosphere was relaxed yet lively with some couches to just chill with a cup of coffee. And service was fast and efficient.

We were first hesitated in dining at a hotel restaurant. We're glad we tried having our dinner here. It did not disappoint us. My whole family loved the sumptous Ilocano dishes the restaurant served. Even the children in our group liked the vegetable dishes.

4. Red Ribbon Bakeshop

If you head out of the square with fountains, heading towards the court building you may see Mart One and Red Ribbon hidden away in the corner.Red Ribbon is a Philippine Chain selling Pastries, cakes etc but also a great coffee shop.Coffee and slice of cake for 70php. Great for that mid afternoon indulgence.Service is fast and efficient, and a great place to escape the crowds in the square.
