Things to do in Takaka
The Skinny Sparrow is a great place to come and grab a coffee and an icecream. Situated right in front of the Abel Tasmans-Tata Islands. If the weather is great we are open.
I often have a hot chocolate here after a paddle board session and they always taste great - and I appreciate the marshmallows as well!
This place is where the alternative people and misfits hang out, and is also a video rental shop (hundreds/thousands) still available to rent) from the old days. There's a range of musical instruments available for customers to play (piano, drum kit, keyboards etc) and chess-sets.The coffee is good and the cabinet food perfectly OK. The vibe is kinda odd and funky, and I enjoyed the live music when I was there. The Chinese-Malay owner has a wry sense of homour. Comfy armchairs to sink into. Bizarre décor. Definitely different.
There's been a pie shop on this spot in all the years we've been visiting Takaka and the Golden Bay region, and we never miss the chance to buy some to take back to ouraccommodation for all of our family .This year we got a little worried in case they had moved on, as we didn't recognise the shiny new building. No panic though; they had just updated, to include a café, I think for the first time. Inside nothing had changed, still the same large range of pies and other good things to eat.Heating them up back home, together with chips bought in Pohara, they made a delicious meal, and everybody was relieved and very happy. Some things don't need to change, and this is one of them.
Enjoy this unique Wainui cafe experience. Pristine surroundings, great coffee, light refreshments. Family friendly, picnickers very welcome.
Great to have a cafe so convenient to the carpark for the Wainui Falls walk. Coffee and teas are excellent. Range of food is a little limited but the garden setting is great. Just keep an eye on the local wekas while you leave your table unattended!

We always eat here when in Takaka. The freshly made healthy wraps are amazing. Also fresh salads in jars, bacon butties and some sweet treats too. Tucked away on the back street of town, definitely recommend to eat here if you're looking for healthy options.
We make hand crafted, filled quality chocolates in Takaka, Golden Bay - Europe meets New Zealand with a contemporary twist! We also make sweets, desserts and patisserie and serve great coffee and hot chocolate in our gorgeous little shop in the main stree
What an amazing find! So many choices of fantastic chocolates with my favourite being firstly the passionfruit and secondly the liquorice, aniseed and blackcurrent ones (sounds crazy but tastes amazing and has just won a gold award as well). Friendly and helpful service and the tastes are heaven! I was devastated when Rosy Glow chocolates in Collingwood closed as I was worried I would not get a good chocolate fix on my Golden Bay holiday, but these guys are even better!

Such a special place to visit, in the middle of native Bush is this hidden gem. We were lucky enough to have a short visit and stayed in the accommodation as well as having meals in the restaurant/cafe. Breakfast is brilliant, The eggs with rhubarb ketchup and feta was the light in my life. Such a strange combination has never been so perfect for one another! The lunch menu is perfect, light and breezy, perfect for the location, coffee and lunch in the sun. A couple of wines and café style meals. Or you can always enjoy a beer down at the pizzeria with the best handmade pizza around! The dinner menu could have dropped from somewhere a lot more sophisticated (not that the lodge isnât sophisticated! Itâs beautiful!) The dinner menu is drool inducing. I had the Black Garlic pappadelle and only wish I could have it every single night for the rest of my life! The perfect trip! Worth the distance to visit this gem. Also, the kids menu was much better than other places. No boring nuggets in site.

Right on Main Street and great curb appeal. Pop on in and be treated to lots of goodies. The dangerous little chocolate goodies are worth the indulgence. The staff are really friendly and eager to help you out with coffee, local sauces and many other local delights.
