Came across this wonderful place and cause of the Cellar Trust by chance. They were busy prepping Christmas Dinner and the tables were beautifully decorated. But the friendly staff still had time to serve me a delicious mince pie and coffee. Will definitely return for a meal. An added bonus was that the part of the Trust’s Work is to support People back into work and betterhealth through work - great cafe and great project!

Post-Hockney tea and cake. Absolutely lovely. My wife had the carrot cake and was very happy.I had the Yorkshire Scoundrel and who knew you ate it with lashings of butter and jam - I didn't but adding those made it taste even better (and naughtier).Loads of room (it was mid-afternoon), and I recommend it. Left a pretty big tip as I was that impressed!

I took my niece and nephew, aged seven and one, for a post-park treat. What a disappointment. We arrived three minutes after the cafe opened, when only one other table (of six tables overall: it’s not a big place) was occupied. It took fifteen minutes for our drinks order to be taken, another fifteen minutes for the drinks to arrive and fifty minutes from our arrival for our lunches - two cheese and ham toasties and a sandwich, so not complicated - to arrive. Why couldn’t the staff earn us on arrival that there would be a long wait for food, particularly when a customer has two small children with her?It felt quite amateurish actually. The two girls working at the cafe clearly had no clue about customer service. A great deal of effort had gone into the vintage style clothes, hair and make up, but very little into food preparation and service. One member of staff stood at the counter making coffee whilst the second appeared to spend at least half an hour assembling afternoon tea for one of the other tables. They are quite simply understaffed, as other reviews suggest. The children’s toasties, when they finally arrived, were pretty poor for £4.50 each. Supermarket thin sliced bread with not much filling. My egg mayo and rocket sandwich was made with cheap sliced brown bread and not much filling and had no rocket in it. When I questioned its absence I got a surly offer to add some. Why not just serve what you advertise? The children wanted a cake afterwards, which I agreed to despite wondering whether we had another fifty minutes to spare to wait for them. The staff member at the till served them up quickly but the choc fudge cake looked cheap and factory made - dry with a thin synthetic tasting filling and icing. My nephew left most of it.When paying, the staff member told me the price but I had to specifically ask to see the supporting bill, which had no numbers on it. Why not? I had to guess whether I’d been charged the correct amount. I was informed that I couldn’t keep the receipt because “it has to go on this spike”. I am a chartered accountant. I know how financial controls work. I do not understand the purpose of the spike after the food has been served. A copy bill was reluctantly written out for me. Amateurish.I wasn’t asked what I thought of the food or the service. I suspect that the staff knew that they wouldn’t like the answer. I asked the staff member at the till whether she was interested in feedback: she looked at me dumbfounded. I said, “If you’re not interested in feedback, that’s fine, I won’t give you any”, at which point she reluctantly listened to me tell her that the wait for food had been unreasonably long. It appears that it was the fault of the customers. Bad, bad customers. Yes, we had “all arrived at about the same time” and “it isn’t usually like that”. The time we had all arrived was midday on Sunday, when the cafe opened. How is that a surprise to the staff?Other reviews mention long waits for food and drinks, so it clearly wasn’t just us. I wouldn’t go back. Mediocre food, ambitious prices, poor service, surly staff. As we left, the children said to me, “that cafe was rubbish!”. I did not contradict them.

Came here for breakfast after seeing all the amazing reviews expecting something out of this world but left feeling a little underwhelmed if I’m honest. Sausages and bacon were undercooked and it had no atmosphere. On the positive prices were good and there were lovely views, waiter also very friendly, but I wouldn’t rush back. Dear Lauren635Thank you for the review on you last visit. I am sorry you felt the sausage and bacon were under cooked. All the food is freshly cooked so sorry if you felt that was the case on your visit. On your photo it looks like the bacon is char grilled and the sausage is cooked but i will take this under advisement. We value both positive and negative feedback to help us improve for all customer. We are delighted you liked the view and the service was up to standard.RegardsThe Rooftop Cafe Team

Enjoyed my interesting take on Cesar's salad at Salt's Diner last weekend followed by a tasty Black Forest tart with clotted cream , both of which were homemade . Service was friendly too . There were half a dozen 'specials' on offer as well as the usual menu . Good place for food at any time of day . Love the dachshund themed crockery and paper napkins .
