As we visit Shanklin in the Luccombe area frequently we always visit the Grand View. This August is different due to the boss on leave at the moment. The food and refreshments are still good. Plenty of Cream teas, cakes and freshly made sandwiches which are still nice. This outdoor cafe also importantly sources it's food locally too... The staff are temporary and new to this but the service was friendly and still efficient which is commendable. Our rather large order was spot on, no mistakes. So just relax in the sun with a coffee, sandwich and a cake and enjoy the wonderful view right across the bay, its well worth it.

Have visited twice now, and will return every time we visit the island. I had the baked potato with tuna mayo, it was delicious with fresh salad on the side. We also bought burgers to take away, they were really good, juicy and filling. And the people working here are friendly, smile and banter and make you feel welcome and at home. 5 stars!

Liked the look of the place whilst strolling down Shanklin seafront. Wide range of sandwiches, baguettes etc and plated meals. Small seating area outside to watch the sea and activities on the beach. My sausage and bacon baguette was excellent and the coffee very nice too.

This was a last minute choice as we made our way out of Shanklin and it was a good choice. The food was very generously portioned and the fillings for the sandwiches were fresh and well presented. The staff were great with the children too and the children's meals were very large. A good find and I would highly recommend if for cheap eats.

I couldn't visit a place like Shanklin Old Village, with its winding lane and cluster of quaint, thatched cottages without doing the tea-and-cake thing, though I'm more of a pint-and-pie man usually. So I randomly stepped into the Old Thatch one wet morning in late September, finding myself in a ghostly temple of chintz and china--the decor and tablecloths patterned as in a 19th-century picture book, the walls lined with hundreds of plates, teapots, jugs, and other crockeriferous delights. The rooms were darkly quiet--what with rainy skies outside and the earliness of the hour. I sat at a table with a flowery pink tablecloth under glass and ordered a pot of tea and piece of carrot cake. The tea arrived in a giant cream-coloured teapot, accompanied by a ludicrously huge amount of milk in a matching jug covered by cloth. The generous doorstop of cake came with a jug of cream and a spoon and fork--they clearly don't mind a bit of washing up at the Old Thatch. I liked the elaborateness of this lark, the sense of ritual and occasion attending a mere morning tea, which showed we British can rival any Zen tea ceremony in Japan when we put our mind to it. The tea was very good tea, too, the cake fresh and tasty. I assumed it was all going to cost a fortune, but it came to only £3 odd, so fair play to the Old Thatch Tearooms indeed. I daresay they get busy in the summer; but there are plenty of tables in the several rooms, so give it a go, I say.As I was leaving, the waitress sprang forward and told me I'd dropped something. I said I hadn't, but she insisted. And she then probed doggedly around under the chairs and table, bemused at finding nothing. I said, "Either you're on drugs or there's a ghost." She looked at me sharply. "There IS a ghost," she said

Restaurant, tearoom and cafe specialising in light lunches, cream teas and snacks with spacious garden and attached gift shop.
Found via TripAdvisor and would thoroughly recommend, although a bit small for sitting inside on a wet day. Service was very attentive and the food was of a good quality and reasonably priced. Will remember for a future visit to the island.Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are pleased that you enjoyed your visit and look forward to seeing you again.Lisa & Derick

Having visited Shanklin beach on a busy day we were pleased to find the lovely Small Hope Beach. Quieter and a nicer atmosphere than the main stretch. The Salix Cafe was busy with a live band playing outside. Overlooking the beach you could sit with a drink while the kids play. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming and the staff lovely. The food was really good quality and very good value for money. Great ice cream too. Look forward to returning the next time we visit.
