Salinas /səˈliːnəs/ is the county seat and largest municipality of Monterey County, California. Salinas is an urban area located just outside the southern portion of the Greater Bay Area and 10 miles (16 km) east-southeast of the mouth of the Salinas River. The population was 157,218 as of 2016. The city is located at the mouth of the Salinas Valley roughly eight miles from the Pacific Ocean and has a climate more influenced by the ocean than the hot-summer interior. The majority of residents live in single-unit detached homes, built between 1950 and 2000, while one third of the housing stock has three or more units per structure. Salinas serves as the main business, governmental and industrial center of the region. The marine climate is ideal for the floral industry, grape vineyards, and vegetable growers. Salinas is known for its vibrant and large agriculture industry and being "The Salad Bowl of the World" as the hometown of writer and Nobel Prize in Literature laureate John Steinbeck, who based several of his novels there.

A little gem off of hiway 68, between Salinas and Monterey. It serves breakfast and lunch and closes around 2:00. The food is always fresh and the service is friendly and helpful. There is in side and outside seating, Parking is out front or in the back. Definitely a good place to eat.

Everything is made in-house, the greens and vegetables are all fresh, sustainable and locally sourced and the specials change daily.
Wonderful variety of entree and deli food. Great for lunch or dinner and the Old Town location next to the Steinbeck Center is perfect. The ambiance is light and airy with a grand downtown feel. Nice bar, too. I only wish there were more vegetarian entree options, but that's the case almost everywhere in this county.

Not very fancy, but a good ole place to have a good average breakfast. My dad likes SOS and this is one of few places he can have it.

Great spot for lunch. I always order online and it's ready to pick up by the time I get there. I highly recommend their wraps and the paninis.

The name "Brickhouse" made us think of steaks, or possibly burgers. The Burrito Bar threw us at first. You have the option of either ordering off the menu, or ordering from the burrito bar -- think sushi bar, but burritos. In the end, to make our food all come out together, we chose to order off of the menu. The visual presentation was the first thing we noticed. A well-organized and eye-catching plate, to say the least. The vegetables were steamed al dente, soft but toothsome. The rice was pretty good. The steak was very good. A perfect medium temperature -- exactly what I asked for. The sauted mushrooms and onions hadn't been overcooked and overly carmelized, so they still gave good flavor to the meat. It was that layered flavor that chefs strive for: Each flavor was distinct and no one flavor trumped all the rest. The meat was tender and good. Not perfect -- I've had a few better steaks here and there -- but this steak was certainly worth the money and I will definitely be back for another.A friend had the Spanish Chicken -- a special; similar to the Lemon chicken that is on the menu -- and had similar comments. Good flavor, toothsome vegetables, well cooked and well-presented.The burrito bar looks good -- that might be a good stop for a future visit.
