Independent Contemporary cafe and bakery located in a 15th century property in the heart of rye, East Sussex
We dropped in to the White House for a quick lunch on a very warm day. The modern treatment of a very old building has resulted in a dining room that is sympathetic, airy and cool. The menu was quirky and different and we opted for an open sandwich with chickpeas and aubergine. Delicious. Unfortunately they were out of sparkling water, but a carrot, orange and ginger drink was very refreshing. The staff were very helpful and lunch was very enjoyable indeed.Well worth a visit,

Went for breakfast while on weekend break. Didn't realise til we got in that the staff had learning disabilities. The young lady who served us was polite and efficient. I had a bacon bap and my husband had full English. It was served quickly and very good quality. It was great value for money and I would recommend it to anyone.

We have been to the Beach cafe before but not for a while. Pretty much all was okay but we sat outside and it was quite disgusting. Old bits of tissue, paper and even an old dog poo bag just left lying around. It just seemed that no-one cared, which is sad.Had a sandwich which was ok (bread very ordinary) with salad on the side with no cutlery so why not just add to the sandwich?Sorry to be negative but it was truly disappointing.Luckily no photos.Unfortunately we cannot help bits of tissue etc that blow off the tables, it is all picked up at the end of the day. As for the poo bag this is an on going problem we have as the council wonât put a dog bin in along the beach and people think itâs ok to leave them by benches or even throw them in our pots which we find very disgusting and try to keep an eye out for people leaving them unfortunately we are to busy to always catch them leaving it.Cutlery, napkins and sachets are right next to the counter we donât put these on your plate as we have no idea what sauce you want on your food so you are asked to help yourself

Set in the heart of the ancient Cinque Port of Rye, The Cobbles Tea Room has been known for over 60 years as the town's premier traditional tea room. Listed in Sussex Life 2019 as one of 16 best tea rooms in Sussex.
A small and potentially atmospheric venue. A little cramped which is understandable given the space available. Good tea served in the old fashioned way using real tea leaves which is good. The toasted tea cakes were a little doughy and hardly toasted. The toilet is down an alleyway and not exactly welcoming.Thank you for your comments. We are pleased that you enjoyed our good, old fashioned loose leaf tea! ... we will look into to the tea cake issue that you raise now. Not something we usually get wrong but, of course, we are sorry if you didnât enjoy it. We would have dealt with it/put it right for you at time if you had told us. Like the good, old fashioned tea the tearoom is a grade II listed building, built in in 1836. We have an outside loo which reflects the charm and life of our historical building.

Iâm told our experience is slightly unusual by a relative, however....... The cafe itself is light bright and contemporary. Good views over the River and onwards to Camber sands. All the staff were miserable ! I ordered a croissant to go with my espresso and when it arrived it was basically cremated. I asked the waitress for a âless well done oneâ to which she replied, â I donât know if we have anyâ in a very unfriendly manner. When the replacement arrived it was only just slightly better. In true typical English style we didn't make any further fuss. The batch were clearly all over cooked and reheated. Will I hurry back ? No !

The fig is a relaxed, contemporary cafe serving simple fresh and healthy food and locally roasted coffee.
This lovely café serves excellent breakfasts. It was difficult to choose from the wonderful unusual menu. The hollandaise sauce was freshly made to order and we enjoyed a mushroom eggs Benedict as well as a traditional one with fresh ham. The cappuccinos were excellent. The atmosphere was very pleasant apart from slightly chilly with an open window. The service was friendly.
