There's something about a local eatery that speaks to you before you even order your meal. We took a small group of business associates out to a birthday brunch. None of us had ever been to Joe's Cafe before this experience. The food was everything you'd expect and more. The service (fast-casual style), and the table service were just fine, if you're okay with getting your own drink, tableware, and napkins. The portions were larger than anyone should eat in one sitting (you can always take some home if so inclined). The prices were full-fare restaurant level, notwithstanding the serve-yourself style. So here's the rub: Everything was sticky. The dining table; The ketchup container; The salt and pepper shakers; The service table; the chair back and seat. It felt like they needed to close for a day and power-wash the entire place top to bottom. Great food. Grimey environment. Southern comfort doesn't need to be sticky. But we did get a good meal and enjoyed our visit.

We stopped in the Corner Bakery Cafe and enjoyed the well made sandwiches and meals. It was clean, run well, family friendly, and moderately priced. If I am back in the area I would come again. The panini and the Turkey, bacon, avocado were a great combo.

We ordered the summer special salad and were not told it cannot be included in the combo meal until after we were charged for it. We also ordered the pork bbq sandwich; what we got was a cabbage sandwich with a little pork on it. When we expressed our dissatisfaction we were told "have a fine day." Tables were not bussed so we had to wait for a seat. Zupas continues to go downhill; they serve watered down soups instead of the delicious thick creamy soups we used to enjoy, cabbage salads pretending to be filled with meat, and salads that are half the size they used to be and all lettuce, very little else. The chocolate covered strawberries are puny and the quality of the chocolate has diminished. There are no longer baguettes, but cheap dinner rolls. Just an overall disappointing experience. In an area full of choices, Zupas is fast leaving our short list.

Unfortunately this quaint looking place needs major refurbishing. Paint, new vinyl, and a thorough cleaning will go a long way. And, the menu looks pretty good, but the food quality is poor. The cooks need a chef to teach them how to properly season the food. Probably would not recommend this one. If a diner is wanted, Deneys, Village Inn and IHOP are close by.
