Chalcis (/ˈkælsɪs/; Ancient Greek & Katharevousa: Χαλκίς, Chalkís) or Chalkida (Modern Greek: Χαλκίδα, [xalˈciða]) is the chief town of the island of Euboea in Greece, situated on the Euripus Strait at its narrowest point. The name is preserved from antiquity and is derived from the Greek χαλκός (copper, bronze), though there is no trace of any mines in the area. In the late Middle Ages, it was known as Negropont(e), an Italian name that has also been applied to the entire island of Euboea.

Two years ago this was the best place in the city now they changed to self service which means that if you want to eat a cake you have to eat it from a box. The cost remained the same, above average but the quality of service has dropped below any imagination... shame.

They have 2 price levels. If you're not Greek you'll pay 5 euros for a (very) small beer (2.50 otherwise). Idiots! It's the first time we've exoerienced this, in 12 years of visiting & living in Evia. They're going to lose a lot of business this way.

The stylish Xenia café-bar Restaurant is impressive even in winter. Situated in the most idyllic location on the top of the hill just below the Castle of Karababa attracts many visitors even from Athens and it is encouraging how people in Greece check the Restaurants lately through the net, even café-bars that they are planning to visit. The economic crisis in Greece made everyone consider the least penny spent and the Xenia is indeed popular, keeping the price low and quality at the highest point!It was outstanding during the summer visit, but now in the middle of winter when everything moved indoors it is really amazing. The cozy atmosphere, its beautiful ambience and style, the beautiful design makes it unrivalled.The age of its fan followers or customers vary. There are not only youngsters but grown ups as well. The Xenia was not only full but there were people waiting to get a seat, or had to wait by the bar to get better seat at the round small tables next to the huge double glazed windows where the view is breathtaking. The beautiful city of Chalkida and the waterfront can clearly be seen from up there, and no matter what time of day, or what season one goes the view is rewarding.The staff competent and professional, -youngsters who surely know how to please the demanding customer!Highly recommended, not only for a cup of coffee (2.5 euro) or a drink but ask for Xeniaâs Appetizers and try the Beer Variety for two (14 euro) The mint meat balls are exceptional for sure and everything seems tasty. Ask for some fine Greek wine from the long wine list. The price of course depends on the name, quality and year of production. Another alternative is the Pizzas or Pasta for 13 euro and 8 euro respectively. It does not matter if it is a sunny day or a damp cold rainy one. The pleasure is immense no matter what!Finish this wonderful outing in Chalkida with an aromatic espresso (2.5euro). Donât worry about the calories and accompany the coffee with either a Chocolate soufflé or Chocolate lovers and some ice cream for 6.5 euro.I would certainly love to return and experience other tastes!

I really enjoyed having my snack and coffee in Le Petit Savoureux. It's the most delicate place in Chalkida with high-quality snacks and coffee. My kids had to choose among a wide variety of chocolates and they loved it. The owner pays attention to every detail in his store where every object has a story to tell.

This is a beach property missing all these years from Khalkis. For many years this beach and its bar had been left by the municipality to ruin and we had stopped going there. Last year a new owner took over and completely refurbish everything. New wooden beach bar, timber comfortable sofas and beach sun umbrellas, Clean and refurbish sand, showers great and attentive service by the beach boys and girls. The sea water is constantly cleaned up by the Euripus golf stream and is ideal for children as it is very shallow for many meters. Nice relaxing music (not too loud) and a beach volley. Good snacks and drinks. This is more of a beach bar-cafeteria than a proper restaurant. We only had a swim, snacks and drinks at the beach followed by lunch at one of the several seafood taverns. The place is also open in the evening with beach parties. We will certainly come more often in the future.
