Things to do in Kawaihae
Hamakua Living is a combination restaurant and grocery store with unique items.I liked this because it was a local place and simple. The ladies serving lunch were so nice and explained everything to us (this was our first full day on the island). I had a plate lunch special of pork in tomatoes and garlic over rice. Wonderfully seasoned, not spicy. My friend had the roast pork with vegetables over rice. Each plate lunch was $5. There were two tables for sitting under the canopy. It was relaxing to enjoy lunch and watch the town. You can also get all kinds of snack items that are unique to this area; things like dried seafood and interesting candies.
This is what âmade with loveâ means. Every component of the seemingly no-nonsense menu is painstakingly prepared. From the fermented accompaniments to the home brewed Kombucha, youâll really appreciate the passion that this husband and wife team puts into everything they prepare. Your body will appreciate you too.

I ordered a fish dish, and my husband ordered some kind of steak. Neither of us were the least bit impressed. I don't think either of us even finished our food. It just wasn't good. The mac nut ice cream looked really good, but since we had just wasted quite a bit of money on ehh (at best) food, we just walked away. HOWEVER, every single other person we saw left with pizza. We didn't notice this when we ordered. So, I think the pizza must have been really good! So, if you choose Kings View Cafe (there weren't many open options), go for the PIZZA! I think it must be their specialty.

Daylight Mind is a Restaurant, Coffee House, Bakery, Roaster and Coffee School located in sunny Waikoloa Resort. We serve brunch and dinner seven days a week made from the best farm fresh ingredients the Big Island provides. Our features casual comfortabl
Took my granddaughters for breakfast and was sorely disappointed. The toast (what no English muffin) under the undercooked/runny egg white egg was hard as a rock. Stale bread before toasting? Couldnât cut it with a knife. There was something stringy I pulled out that looked like pulled pork but was not edible. And we ordered spinach. The potatoes were good and the service was fine, but $16 for the worst eggs benedict ever was a rip. the coffees came 10 minutes into our meal even tho we ordered them before the meal.

We stopped here because not much else was open in town at the time. The proprietor was rude to us and the food was average. She engaged in a highly inflammatory political conversation with some other patrons which made us want to ditch our food and leave. In the words of Dory, âJust keep swimmingâ right on past to the next town.
Little hole in the wall kind of place, but I enjoyed the Acai bowl. Cute candy store for the kids. They also have bubble tea and if your lucky they might have poke bowls. Will definitely go there again.
Hina Raes DA BEST for acai bowls, daily lunch specials and located next to Kamuela DMV. Food is so good, a great place to hang. Waimea support an awesome eatery! It is addicting. Clean and neat, lots of variety, healthy, vegetarian or meat eater, cold food, hot food, kids and adults will love this place.

We visited Island Lava Java for lunch and ordered their fish tacos & the Lava Java salad. The food was all fresh and served hot. Wonderful flavours and very appetizing! All was very reasonably priced too. Would highly recommend this place to others.

My husband and I stopped here with friends for breakfast before a big day of sightseeing. We ate upstairs, open-air with a view onto the ocean and warm breezes. Most of us had the Big Island Basics breakfast and one had the Belgian Waffle. We all enjoyed our meal, plentiful servings! My husband did not care for the Portuguese sausage but I had plenty of bacon to share. Coffee was very good. Our service was friendly and prices reasonable. If you eat here, do note that the restrooms are upstairs, as we found at most multi-level restaurants we visited. I don't know if there was an elevator.

Expect a little wait but worth it. Also expect to take some home. Great cheery service. Decided to try this on our way to several excellent farmer's markets in the area. A local recommended it. Meals are served on oval turkey platters. I like crispy bacon and theirs is deep fried so it is definitely crispy. As you can see from pictures portions are huge. I had the 2 eggs, corned beef hash, and french toast. The hash was served thin and crispy - very good but after seeing the kailua pork hash over fried rice that would be my recommendation. The french toast is a sweet bread but just standard stuff. They didn't leave it in the egg long enough to soak into the bread. Over medium eggs were perfect. I tried the hash browns- also large helping. The real surprise is their side of pancakes that comes with most egg meals. the serve 2 on these large oval platters. Nice and fluffy. The menu includes loco mocos and an assortment of meats like portuguese sausage and blood sausage. The menu was large enough to get you back for several different breakfasts and lunches.
