We had my Nanaâs wake here 2 years ago as her funeral was at the Crematorian next door. It was as lovely as a sad day like that could be, the staff did a lovely job of setting up an afternoon tea for everyone in one of their function rooms.Skip ahead 2 years and we still regularly visit here, most recently for the 2 year anniversary of my nana passing. I just love how even though you are technically on a main road youâd never know with all the lovely foliage and wildlife roaming around, itâs truly is itâs namesake and a secret garden.I was also pleasantly surprised to see that they now offered a few gluten free options, I.e you could swap for GF bread on your sandwiches. Not many options but still nice to see they are listening and accommodating to different needs.Iâd absolutely love it if they started doing a GF afternoon tea or even just a GF scone! But overall still love this place and the memories it provides also:)

Traditional southern Italian deli/restaurant
Lovely italian food with great service. Try Polignano, you wonât be disappointed. Lovely Italian food, prepared by an Italian. Authentic music, well priced, definitely worth a visit. Take a night off from the big chains and support a local small business.

Blackmore Tea Rooms is an unassuming village cafe in Blackmore, Essex. It's definitely worth the visit, we go there often and are never disappointed. I've called it M&S of tea rooms because you know the quality of the food will be the same each time you visit. The standards are high the food is always tasty. Portions are generous. The cakes are homemade and taste amazing !The staff are welcoming and friendly (esp. Aunt Sally )Indoor and outdoor seating, dogs are permitted outside. Lovely place, lovely food and lovely people - what's not to like.

We are a Cafe/Deli during the day that serves local, homemade produce. We love kids & dogs & strive to create a buzzing atmosphere. Our venue turns into a candlelit bar Friday & Saturday evenings, where we offer sharing platters #LOVEFOOD
Cannot recommend this restaurant enough, after my first time here with friends I will defo be returning. All day brunch with a great choice of different dishes, they also cater for picky customers we all swapped different parts of the dishes around to suit our tastes! Very helpful staff and good turn around considering it was busy! Could do with a larger premises but overall great experience

Ravens Bakery, Ingatestone, EssexThe sky was tipping it down that morning; weâd driven over from Maldon to a long-term lock-up storage depot outside Ingatestone, and our appointee had been delayed. We left a message courtesy of a friendly representative of another company on-site, hopped back in the car and chased a coffee and brioche in Ingatestone. It was 10.00 am. That friendly representative had recommended the Ravens Bakery just down from the intersection of the High Street (the main road through the town) and the Stock Road where we were coming from; so, an easy five minutes ride back into town. Both the town and the café attached to the bakery were new to us. We parked the car on a side road around the back of the bakery/café and, umbrellas handy, headed for that coffee. You rarely go wrong with a café attached to a bakery â all those heady aromas, crusty loaves stacked in racks behind the serving counter, the shelves of traditional English buns, cakes and dolce behind glass under the counter that challenge you for choice when complementing that coffee, and the pleasure of 15 minutes or so enjoying a glimpse of small country town Essex; and this notwithstanding the rain that was hammering the main windows that separate you from the road and the traffic swishing past. The two parts of the shop were a few steps apart. We stood in-line at the bakery counter and ordered and, table number in hand, were told to take a seat in the café area; coffee would be a few minutes. There were tables and chairs for around a dozen people â small café then - with half the places occupied. People were coming and going to the bakery; just a handful headed for the café.Coffee was served in china, froth to the rim, with all the pleasure that comes from anticipation. Weâd a slice of carrot cake and an iced apple donut to share â far too much for mid-morning - a knife and paper bag enabled us to augment our lunch snack a few hours later. We paid a few pence under UK£7 for our mid-morning break â less than the UK$2 that is typical of a coffee/brioche âunitâ - so good value.Downsides? Well, the coffee wasnât as hot as weâd preferred, but weâd not made a point of asking for hot coffee. Next time round? Then the waitress service was all âgloom and doomâ â perhaps she was having a bad morning? Or maybe that was just a personal impression. Service behind the counter, by comparison, was typical of the smiles and friendly banter that you usually meet in small town Essex.Summary? Picturesque rural Essex in the rain, welcoming coffee and brioche, service would have benefited from that âextra mileâ. TripAdvisor doesnât provide a âgoodâ category; and this, unfortunately, wasnât a âvery goodâ coffee experience. Next time then.Peter Steele06 June 2107

Although I use this gem of a cafe on a regular basis I rarely write a review as it hardly varies from one write up to the next. The staff are still friendly, the atmosphere warm and food for a greasy spoon, great and offering terrific value for money.
